Apple releases iOS 17.1.2, iPadOS 17.1.2, and macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 updates

It was something of an update-o-rama on Thursday as Apple released its iOS 17.1.2, iPadOS 17.1.2, and macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 updates.

While Apple didn’t offer details as to specific changes within the changelogs, the company did say the updates feature security fixes.

The new version of iOS follows iOS 17.1.1 which was released on November 7 and addressed wireless charging issues for BMW drivers as well as a snow glitch. Apple similarly released macOS Sonoma 14.1.1 to address compatibility with new M3 MacBook Pros.

Apple is currently beta testing its larger iOS 17.2, iPadOS 17.2, and macOS Sonoma 14.2 updates, which will include Apple’s new Journal app for iPhone, collaborative playlists in Apple Music, new Clock and Weather widgets, and updates to Tapback in Messages.

The updates can be located, downloaded, and installed via the usual software update steps within the operating systems.

Rumor: Apple expected to release iOS 17.1.2 update this week

If you were hoping for an iOS bug fix, it looks like it’s en route for this week.

As mentioned before, assorted website analytics traffic has indicated that Apple’s iOS 17.1.2 update is likely to be released this week. The update is thought to focus on assorted bug fixes, although it’s unclear exactly which issues might be addressed. Some users have continued to experience Wi-Fi issues on iOS 17.1.1, so perhaps iOS 17.1.2 will include the same fix for Wi-Fi connectivity issues that Apple already included in the iOS 17.2 beta. Some users have also experienced minor bugs related to push notifications, HomeKit, and more.

The iOS 16.1.2 update was released during the week after U.S. Thanksgiving last year, so there is precedent for a bug-fix update being released this week.

Following the iOS 17.1.2 update, Apple is expected to release its iOS 17.2 update, which has been in beta testing for about a month now. The update includes many new features and changes, including Apple’s Journal app, support for spatial video recording on iPhone 15 Pro models, a Translate option for the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro models, the ability for Apple Music subscribers to collaborate on playlists, an iMessage Contact Key Verification security option for high-profile individuals, additional Weather and Clock widgets, and more.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
