  • Apple’s 2018 i9-power Touch Bar MacBook Pro may include thermal issues that can throttle performance

    Apple could have a bit of a thermal issue to contend with when it comes to its top of the line 2018 Touch Bar MacBook Pro.

    The notebook, which features an i9 processor, may look amazingly fast on paper, but could throttle and slow down dramatically under a heavy workload.

    Per YouTube reviewer David Lee, tests with the MacBook Pro with a 6-core 2.9 GHz Core i9 processor showed a significant slowdown after only a few seconds of rendering in Adobe Premiere the speed drops down to about 2.2 GHz. That’s in line with the base speed of Core i7 processor in the lowest cost version for the new 15-inch 6-core notebook.

  • Apple removes MacBook Air firmware updater after reports of problems

    appstorelogoAfter a day of user complaints of problems applying the MacBook Air 2.9 EFI firmware update after its release, Apple has finally pulled the update from the App Store. As we reported yesterday, threads like this one, started reporting that attempts to apply the update would run and fail to actually update the firmware, or that it would “brick” their laptop leaving it unusable. Those that weren’t left with a non-working MacBook Air also reported that after attempting the failed update, the App Store app would show the update as installed with an additional entry showing that it still needed to be applied.

  • Apple releases Brother Printer drivers 2.9 update

    Your head won’t explode from excitement, but it’s still useful.

    On Friday, Apple released updated Brother printer drivers for the Mac OS X 10.6 and Mac OS X 10.7 operating systems. Brother Printer Driver 2.9, a 149.2 megabyte download offering the most current drivers for Brother’s printers and multi-function devices.

    The update can be located, snagged and installed via the built-in Mac OS X Software Update feature and requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 or later to install and run.

  • HP Printer Drivers 2.8, Epson Printer Drivers 2.9 out the door

    Early Friday, both HP and Epson released updated printer driver s for Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 operating systems.

    HP Printer Drivers v.2.8 OS X and Epson Printer Drivers v.2.9 OS X

    The HP Printer Drivers 2.8 includes the latest scanning and printing software for HP and Epson devices for Lion and Snow Leopard. HP’s latest drivers weigh in at 514.55MB download, while Epson’s are a 972.36MB download, respectively.

    Both updates can be located and installed via Mac OS X’s built-in Software Update feature and require either Mac OS X 10.6 or later to install and run.
