  • Function101 announces $30 Apple TV Remote alternative to be released later this month

If you love your Apple TV, but have been driven to the edge of madness by its remote, there’s now an alternative.

When Apple unveiled its Siri-equipped Apple TV Remote with touch surface in 2015 alongside the fourth-generation Apple TV, its controller became synonymous with frustration for some of its user base.

As of 2019, Swiss telco Salt launched an alternative remote control for the Apple TV 4K units that was included in its broadband TV bundle.

On Monday, Function101 announced its “Button Remote for Apple TV,” which retails for $30 and looks very similar to the Swiss model. The unit will be available in the U.S. later this month, and includes directional arrows in place of the Siri Remote’s glass Touch surface, a power button in addition to a Menu button, along with separate volume and channel rockers and traditional media playback buttons. The unit lacks a Siri button, which may or may not be a deal breaker, depending on the user.

If this alternative sounds just about perfect aside from the Siri factor, users can always control your Apple TV using an iPhone or via an Apple Watch.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

  • Rumor: iPhone 12 Pro camera could support 4K Video shot at 240fps

If the rumors are truly, the iPhone 12 Pro’s camera could be legitimately bananas.

Per the EverythingApplePro YouTube channel, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 Pro camera could support 4K video shooting at 240 frames per second.

The article follows up on Filip Koroy reportedly finding evidence of the camera’s high resolution, slow-mo formate in the current iOS beta code. Whether this is valid remains to be seen, but this also accompanies yesterday’s story about the handset boasting a ProMotion 120Hz display.

    • Fixes an issue where MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020) may hang in Setup Assistant or when disconnecting and reconnecting a 4K or 5K external display

  • tvOS 13.4 developer beta code reference hints at possible upcoming Apple TV 4K hardware

Once again, a code reference in a beta may have pointed out something new on the horizon.

Following the release of Apple’s first tvOS 13.4 developer beta on Wednesday, a reference to new Apple TV hardware, tagged as “T1125,” has been found.

The current Apple TV 4K is named J105a, and the Apple TV HD model number is “J42d.” A recent report suggests that the letter T at the beginning implies that it is an internal model, or a prototype that isn’t finished yet.

It’s hard to say whether new Apple TV hardware is en route, and it’s been over two years since the fifth generation Apple TV was released. An upgraded unit could offer faster performance and a speedier experience with Apple Arcade games.
