  • Code strings hint at a possible 5-port Apple Silicon Mac mini

Code strings hint at a possible 5-port Apple Silicon Mac mini

Following up on rumors that a new Mac mini is only a few weeks away, a code string reported by MacRumors contributor references an “Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port),” which seems to indicate such a Mac is in the company’s plans.

The code string appears to have surfaced from some macOS Sequoia code, wherein Apple officially released iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and tvOS 11 on Monday.

Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will release Macs with the M4 chip “in the coming weeks.” As Gurman reported back in April, Apple will update the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. Gurman has previously reported that the Mac mini will feature a new, smaller design that makes it about the size of the Apple TV and that it will have five USB-C ports, three on the back and two on the front.

The current Mac mini includes either two or four Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports on the back of the case. Apple also includes a pair of USB-A ports, which Gurman claims Apple will drop on the new model.

  • iOS 16.4 Release Candidate code hints at potential upcoming AirPods, Beats audio products

iOS 16.4 Release Candidate code hints at potential upcoming AirPods, Beats audio products

Sometimes it’s the source code that offers the clearest road map as to forthcoming Apple products.

A group of new audio accessories could be en route, and references to new AirPods and Beats earphones within the iOS 16.4 Release Candidate software have offered hints as to what to expect.

New personal audio accessories could be on the way, with the release candidate beta of iOS 16.4 including references to new AirPods and Beats earphones.

Apple introduced the Release Candidate version of iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 on Tuesday, giving developers a look at the operating system update that should be released to the public in the near future. According to developer “Aaron” on Twitter, there are references to new AirPods models in the release candidate. The references mention a model number of AirPods, A3048, as well as another for an AirPods case, A2968.

While the leak doesn’t offer specific product details or definitive release dates, they seem to indicate an upcoming AirPods product. This also jibes with claims that analysts have made predicting that an AirPods Lite product could be on the way. The AirPods Lite has been said to be a more budget-friendly model with a reduced feature list to help cut costs. There have also been murmurings of a new AirPods Max model.

At the same time as the AirPods reference discovery, the same leak may also be offering information on a new Beats earphone model. 9to5Mac claims there is support for an unreleased model, the Beats Studio Buds+.

It’s been rumored that the update to the existing Beats Studio Buds would include audio sharing, automatic device switching, and Hey Siri support, which do not appear in the original release, and also feature an Apple-developed chip instead of the one made by Beats.

  • Apple Pay apparently soft-launches in South Korea

Apple Pay apparently soft-launches in South Korea

Apple Pay has apparently quietly soft-launched in South Kora with a single card issuer presently backing it.

Following regulatory hurdles, Apple Pay was expected to launch in South Korea at any time, which has only been recently confirmed by Apple. The feature seems to have gone live, according to a couple of sources.

A Twitter user, known only as “Aaron,” or user @aaronp613, has shared an image of code indicating Apple Pay has gone live in South Korea. Alongside this, he’s also shared a link to a Korean Apple support document with more information.

The document seems to be ready to list a series of credit and debit cards currently available for Apple Pay within the region. So far, only Hyundai Card has been added to the list.

These lists are maintained by Apple, but aren’t always kept up to date.

Aaron shares code discovered in betas and is a reliable source for such information. He’s previously shared code referencing realityOS and Apple Homekit architecture upgrades.

Apple has yet to officially announce the Apple Pay launch within South Korea, but is expected to do so soon. It’s thought there may be a chance the company is waiting for more partners to provide support prior to the announcement.
