Apple announces M5-based Vision Pro, includes Dual Knit Band, faster charging, and other features

Amidst Apple’s bevy of new product announcements on Wednesday, the company also unveiled an updated Vision Pro headset, complete with an M5 chip and a more comfortable Dual Knit Band.

The M5 chip has a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a 16-core Neural Engine, and while the updated Vision Pro continues to offer 16GB of RAM, the M5 chip allows for faster performance and longer battery life compared to the previous model with the M2 chip.

While Apple has not provided any overall performance figures, the company’s website says the Vision Pro now offers up to three hours of video playback per charge, compared to up to 2.5 hours for the previous model. In addition to improved battery life, Apple has stated that the M5 chip enables the rendering of 10 percent more pixels on the displays compared to the previous model, resulting in sharper images and crisper text. The updated Vision Pro also offers up to a 120Hz refresh rate, up from the previous version’s limit of 100Hz, which Apple says reduces motion blur and provides a smoother experience when using Mac Virtual Display.

With the M5 chip, the Vision Pro gains hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading for improved graphics rendering. These capabilities were first introduced with the M3 chip, but the previous Vision Pro only had an M2 chip.

Other new features include the M5’s faster 16-core Neural Engine and a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core, allowing for AI features to run up to 50 percent faster than the previous Vision Pro model.

The updated Vision Pro still has an R1 chip for input processing. The headset continues to support Wi-Fi 6, rather than Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Some things remain the same, with the new Vision Pro offering new design changes or color options. The unit still uses a tethered battery pack as opposed to a built-in battery.

Some improvements has been paid to the comfort elements, and the updated Vision Pro arrives with the Dual Knit Band, a Light Seal, two Light Seal Cushions, a cover for the front of the device, and a polishing cloth. The unit still includes a battery, and a USB-C charging cable, but now offers Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max, whereas the previous Vision Pro came with Apple’s discontinued 30W USB-C Power Adapter.

The new Dual Knit Band comes in small, medium, and large sizes. It is available to purchase separately for $99, and it is compatible with the previous-generation Vision Pro. Users can find your preferred size by using the Apple Store app on the iPhone.

Apple has stated that the new Dual Knit Band offers two straps knitted into a single piece. The upper strap goes across the top of the head, and the lower strap goes across the back of the head. The lower strap has tungsten inserts that provide a counterweight for additional comfort, balance, and stability. Users can adjust the fit of both of the straps with the Fit Dial.

Other new changes include the availability of the Logitech Muse spatial stylus, as well as the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller, which Apple will begin selling on Tuesday, November 11.

The updated Vision Pro became available for pre-order on Wednesday, and it will begin arriving to customers and launch in stores on Wednesday, October 22.

In the U.S., the Vision Pro continues to start at $3,499, and it can be configured with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. The new model is also available in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the U.K., and the United Arab Emirates. Availability in South Korea and Taiwan will begin at a later date, according to Apple.

Users can demo the new Vision Pro at an Apple Store starting October 22.

  • Rumor: Next-gen Vision Pro could use Dual Knit Band headband

Rumor: Next-gen Vision Pro could use Dual Knit Band headband

The next-gen Apple Vision Pro could be somewhat more comfortable to wear.

Beyond being powered by an updated chip, a backend code reference discovered by MacRumors noted a “Dual Knit Band,” which is not a band that exists at the current time. The Apple Vision Pro comes with a Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band, but no Dual Knit Band.

Given the name, it’s thought that the new band could be a cross between Apple’s two existing bands, and use the same material as the current Solo Knit Band, but with a more supportive fit, given the second band. A text description of the Dual Knit Band suggests that there will be an upper band that spans the top of the head and another band that fits behind the head.

This comes at a time when some current Apple Vision Pro owners have made custom adjustments to use two Solo Knit Bands to provide extra support at the top of the head.

Back in July, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that the refreshed Vision Pro could include a new strap that would make it easier to wear the headset for long periods of time.

The Vision Pro weighs between 21.2 and 22.9 ounces, putting considerable strain on the head when it’s worn for long periods of time. Some users find the weight of the device and the poor distribution of the Solo Knit Band to cause discomfort. The Dual Loop Band removes some of the weight from the face, but because it doesn’t have the same knit design as the Solo Knit Band, it is less comfortable.

Apple is rumored to have a refreshed Vision Pro headset before the end of 2025. The unit is expected to feature the new M5 chip, although Apple may not make any other significant updates to the device.

  • Some iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air owners cite Wi-Fi connectivity issues

Some iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air owners cite Wi-Fi connectivity issues

There’s a reason iOS patches come out.

A number of iPhone 17 users have commented that their new handsets experience sporadic Wi-Fi connectivity errors. At present, hundreds of comments have been posted on the MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and the Apple Support Community over the past few days citing the issue with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air units. It is unclear how widespread the problem is.

Specifically, affected users said Wi-Fi briefly disconnects and then reconnects after they unlock the iPhone. And since Apple’s CarPlay system in vehicles relies on a Wi-Fi connection, the issue can result in CarPlay disconnecting too.

A number of users have stated that the issue occurs while they’re wearing an Apple Watch that is paired and unlocked, although it’s unclear if this is a contributing factor.

It is unclear if this is a hardware or software problem, but Apple is often able to fix these sorts of issues with a software update. iOS 26.0.1 is coming soon, but it is unclear if Apple will have identified and implemented a fix in time for that version.

Each of the new iPhone models arrives equipped with Apple’s first-ever custom-designed N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity, whereas previous iPhone models rely on a Broadcom chip for wireless networking.

In its press releases for the new iPhones, Apple said the N1 chip also improves the performance and reliability of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.

If you’ve seen these errors on your end with your new iPhone 17, please let us know in the comments.

  • Leaked image hints at orange iPhone 17 accessory, potential orange color for iPhone 17 models

Leaked image hints at orange iPhone 17 accessory, potential orange color for iPhone 17 models

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup many feature an orange color, or at least offer an orange accessory to go with it.

Per MacRumors, just ahead of Apple’s anticipated “Awe dropping” media event on Tuesday, wherein the next-generation iPhone models are expected to be announced, noted leaked Sonny Dickson has offered images of an orange crossbody strap designed to work with the company’s upcoming TechWoven cases for iPhone 17. The crossbody strap will reportedly have a flexible metal core and use magnetic attachment points, allowing users to easily connect and disconnect the accessory as needed.

According to previous leaks, the new TechWoven cases, which are replacing Apple’s discontinued FineWoven line, will feature small attachment holes in the bottom corners specifically for looping through Apple’s new strap. The accessory also apparently features a unique design that makes it magnetic along its entire length.

Apple’s AirPods 2 Pro charging case, among other products, has been designed around accessories, as its charging case includes a lanyard cutout, and the fifth-generation iPod touch featured built-in attachment hardware for similar purposes.
