    Apple releases iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4 updates

    You’ve been waiting for these updates and they’re here.

    Apple on Monday released iOS 16.4 and iOS 16.4, the fourth major updates to its mobile operating systems.

    Apple today released iOS 16.4, the fourth major update to the iOS 16 operating system that initially came out last September. iOS 16.4 comes two months after the launch of iOS 16.3, an update that added Security Keys for Apple ID.

    iOS 16.4 adds 21 total new emoji characters including shaking head, pink heart, blue heart, gray heart, donkey, moose, black bird, goose, wing, jellyfish, hyacinth, and more.

    This update includes the following enhancements and bug fixes:

    • 21 new emoji including animals, hand gestures, and objects are now available in emoji keyboards
    • Notifications for web apps added to the Home Screen
    • Voice Isolation for cellular calls prioritizes your voice and blocks out ambient noise around you
    • Duplicates album in Photos expands support to detect duplicate photos and videos in an iCloud Shared Photo Library
    • VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app
    • Accessibility setting to automatically dim video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected
    • Fixes an issue where Ask to Buy requests from children may fail to appear on the parent’s device
    • Addresses issues where Matter-compatible thermostats could become unresponsive when paired to Apple Home
    • Crash Detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models

    iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 may be some of the last updates that we see to the ‌iOS 16‌ and iPadOS 16 operating systems as Apple shifts its focus to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, software that will be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference that’s expected in June.

    The updates can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Apple has also released iOS 15.7.4 for iPhone users who have older devices, with the update offering security improvements.

    Apple on Monday released its long-awaited macOS Ventura 13.3 update. The update includes the following fixes and new features:

    • 21 new emoji including animals, hand gestures, and objects are now available in emoji keyboard

    • Remove background option in Freeform automatically isolates the subject in your image

    • Photos duplicates album expands support to detect duplicate photos and videos in an iCloud Shared Photo Library

    • Transliteration support for Gujarati, Punjabi and Urdu keyboards

    • New keyboard layouts for Choctaw, Chickasaw, Akan, Hausa, and Yoruba

    • Accessibility setting to automatically dim video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected

    • VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app

    • Resolves an issue where Trackpad gestures may occasionally stop responding

    • Fixes an issue where Ask to Buy requests from children may fail to appear on the parent’s device

    • Addresses an issue where VoiceOver may be unresponsive after using Finder

    Apple distributes iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4 Release Candidates to developer community

    Apple’s iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 updates could be just around the corner.

    The company on Tuesday distributed its iOS 16.4 RC (Release Candidate) to developers only a week after the release of its previous beta. The update is available to registered developer beta testers, and as usual, users can install it by going to the Settings app, choosing General, then choosing Software Update. The new update is also available to public beta testers. The build number for the update is 20E246.

    The release notes contain the following fixes, changes, and new features:

    • 21 new emoji including animals, hand gestures, and objects are now available in emoji keyboard
    • Notifications for web apps added to the Home Screen
    • Voice Isolation for cellular calls prioritizes your voice and blocks out ambient noise around you
    • Duplicates album in Photos expands support to detect duplicate photos and videos in an iCloud Shared Photo Library

  • Updated: Apple releases, pulls iOS 8.0.1 update

    It was bound to happen.

    On Wednesday, Apple released version 8.0.1 of its iOS mobile operating system. The update, which can be acquired via iTunes or the Software Update feature in iOS 8, offers the following fixes and changes to Apple’s newly-released operating system:

    – Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store.

    – Addresses an issue where third-party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode.

    – Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library.
