  • Analyst: Apple may be developing its own power management chips, could be veering away from Dialog

    Apple may be developing its own power management chips according to a report from German private bank Bankhaus Lampe.

    The report, which was released on Tuesday, precipitated a sharp drop in the share price of Dialog Semiconductor, which functions as Apple’s current supplier.

    Per analyst Karsten Iltgen:

    “The teams of both companies collaborate very closely and thus, Dialog cannot be replaced by a third-party supplier. However, Apple itself could replace Dialog.”

  • Rumor: Upcoming A9 processor could show 20-30% improvement over A8

    If nothing else, the A9 processor will offer a nice speed boost over its predecessor.

    That’s what a graph of the forthcoming processor’s performance seems to indicate, Apple’s upcoming A9 chip beating out Samsung’s 8-core chips with a single-core score of 2090 and a multi-core tally of 3569, compared to the respective averages of 1611 and 2892 shown by the A8 found in the iPhone 6 series. The A9X chalks up 2109 and 5101 in the same benchmarks, compared to 1808 and 4526 for the iPad Air 2’s A8X.
