    WWDC: Apple announces M2 Ultra-based Mac Pro desktop

    If you’ve been hankering for the high-end that is Apple’s Mac Pro desktop tower you’re in luck. Over at WWDC on Monday, Apple announced its new Mac Pro tower.

    The new desktop is based on the new M2 Ultra chip, which offers a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and support for up to 192GB of Unified Memory. Apple says the new Mac Pro is up to three times faster than the fastest Intel-based Mac Pro.

    The new desktop offers the same overall design as the previous Intel model, and now includes, eight Thunderbolt 4 ports instead of four, two higher-bandwidth HDMI ports that support up to an 8K display at 240Hz, seven PCIe expansion slots, dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a headphone jack that supports impedance headphones. A rack-mounted version of the Mac Pro remains available from $7,499.

    Like the new Mac Studio, the current MacBook Pro, and the current Mac mini models, the new Mac Pro supports the faster Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 protocols.

    The unit is available to order starting today, and it will begin arriving to customers and launch in stores on Tuesday, June 13. In the U.S., pricing starts at $6,999, whereas the previous Intel-based Mac Pro started at $5,999.

  • Apple announces updated, Ivy Bridge Mac mini

    The Mac mini, it’s now equipped with Ivy Bridge goodness.

    Per The Unofficial Apple Weblog, besides a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, Apple also updated its Mac mini line of desktops. The affordable Mac computer keeps the same boxy form factor, but soups up internals with a Core i5 or Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor (dual-core or quad-core configuration), integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, up to 16 GB RAM and up to 1 TB hard drive or 256 GB SSD. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI out, FireWire 800, Thunderbolt port, four USB 3.0 ports and an SD card slot.

    The base model starts at US$600 with a 500 GB hard drive and 4 GB of memory. It is available starting today. A server edition will be available for US$999.
