  • Rumor: Apple could hold special media event on March 31st, release the iPhone 9/iPhone SE 2 on April 3rd

It’s a rumor, but it’s an interesting one.

Capping off a few weeks of evidence accumulating which suggests that Apple might be planning a spring event, German iPhone rumor site iPhone-Ticker has suggested that Apple is planning a special event for the end of March.

The report cites sources directly related to Apple and says that the event “will take place at the end of March.” The most likely date suggested by the report is Tuesday, March 31. From there, Apple would reportedly release the iPhone 9 (or iPhone SE 2) on Friday, April 3.

Apple has historically held keynotes during March in past years, and held a event on Tuesday, March 25th to unveil new services such as Apple News+, Apple Card, and Apple Card in 2019. In 2018, Apple held an event on Tuesday, March 27 focused on education and new iPads.

It’s thought that Apple could hold a media event on March 31st of this year, and then release the iPhone 9 on April 3rd, as well as iOS 13.4 sometime that same week. iOS 13.4 is expected to include new features such as iCloud Drive folder sharing, new Memoji stickers, and much more.

  • Rumor: TSMC expected to begin 5 nanometer chip production with A14 processor in second quarter

Apple chipmaker TSMC has apparently secured orders for its upcoming “A14” processor, which are slated for this year’s iPhones. The company is expected to manufacturing the chips in the second quarter according to industry insiders:

The sources said Apple’s 5G mmWave handsets to be released in 2020 are reportedly to each carry at least three AiP modules, which can also be packaged with FC_AiP (flip-chip) process in addition to InFo_AiP.

TSMC is also reported to have been working to miniaturize its fabrication process from 7 nanometers, as seen in the A12 and A13 processors, to 5 nanometers for the A14 processor, with the aim of securing orders for Apple’s processors in its iPhones for the fourth year running.

This also caps significant moves from TSMC’s end, especially when the company announced a $25 billion investment in the new 5nm node technology in a bid to remain the exclusive supplier of the processors.

Apple is expected to release five new ‌‌iPhone‌‌ models in 2020, including a so-called “iPhone SE 2″‌ with a 4.7-inch LCD display in the first half of 2020, followed by a higher-end all-OLED 5G lineup consisting of 5.4-inch, two 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch models in the second half of the year.

  • Rumor: iPhone 12 units could arrive with 6GB of RAM, 5G enabled

We’re getting to the point where the next-gen iPhone might have more RAM than your typical desktop.

According to analysts at Barclays, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will ship with 6GB of RAM as well as 5G enabled.

They’ve also made the following predications about the iPhone SE 2:

In a recent research note, the Barclays analysts said the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will likely have 6GB of RAM, up from 4GB in the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. They also expect both models to feature rear-facing 3D sensing and mmWave support for higher-performance 5G. The base model iPhone 12 is expected to have 4GB of RAM, equal to the iPhone 11. While the iPhone 12 is also expected to be 5G enabled, the analysts did not indicate whether the device will support mmWave, sub-6GHz, or both. Last, the analysts indicated that the so-called “iPhone SE 2” is still in the pipeline

As always, time will tell as to how accurate these predictions are.

  • Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts next-gen iPad Pro with rear 3D sensing feature, iPhone SE 2 to launch in first half of 2020

Per fabled analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next-gen iPad Pro models will be released in the first half of 2020 and feature a rear 3D sensing feature.

In a research note with TF International Securities, Kuo said the iPad Pro models will gain 3D sensing through the rear-facing camera system. Apple is expected to use a time-of-flight system, which measures the time that it takes for light to bounce off of objects in a room to generate a 3D map.

This measure up with previous reports, including Mark Gurman’s report for Bloomberg that stated that the next-gen iPad Pro would feature dual rear cameras along with a new augmented reality sensor.

Kuo’s report also reiterated Apple’s plans to release an ‘iPhone SE 2″ device in the first half of 2020. He previously noted that the device will offer similar features as the iPhone 8, including a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID, but with a faster A13 chip and 3GB of RAM.

The low-cost iPhone will likely start around $399 with 64GB of storage, and come in Space Gray, Silver, and Red, according to Kuo.

Given that Apple typically holds a media event in March, it’s not impossible to see these products being unveiled around then.
