Leaked images of “Vision Air” power cable surface online, lead to speculation

A series of additional images showing what appears to be a redesigned power cable for a next-gen Apple “Vision Air” headset leaked online Wednesday by the prototype collector and online personality known as “Kosutami.”

The leaker explained that the Apple “Vision Air” will feature a thinner design and switch the battery enclosure and several of its internal structures to titanium to reduce the device’s overall weight. Most of the exterior of the device will continue to be aluminum, except with a “Midnight” bluish-black finish. Today’s Vision Pro is only available in silver.

The recent images of the purported power cable show an anodized aluminum connector finished in Apple’s distinctive Midnight color. Initial pictures of the Lightning-style connector in Midnight purportedly for the next-generation Vision device were first shared yesterday:

The Vision Pro uses a similar connector, albeit with 12 pins instead of eight. This suggests that the new cable is part of a more significant redesign, at least of the external battery. The audio strap connector appears to be the same design as that of the Vision Pro.

Apple is thought to be launching a second-generation Vision Pro headset powered by an M5 chip between fall 2025 and spring 2026. Although the company is also said to be working on a lower-cost headset that could be the “Vision Air” device that Kosutami has referred to.

  • Rumor: AirPods 3 Pro earbuds to feature “much better” Active Noise Cancellation feature over previous models

Rumor: AirPods 3 Pro earbuds to feature “much better” Active Noise Cancellation feature over previous models

If you’re hoping for dramatically improved Active Noise Cancellation on the AirPods Pro 3, you may get it.

Per a Tuesday post on X, noted leaked Kosutami claimed that the AirPods Pro 3 will feature “much better” active noise cancellation compared to the AirPods Pro 2, which launched nearly two years ago. However, the leaker did not provide any specific details about this alleged upgrade.

Apple currently advertises the AirPods 2 as featuring “up to twice as much” active noise cancellation compared to the original AirPods Pro, and the AirPods Pro 3 may see a significant improvement beyond this.

Apple is expected to announce both low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 wireless earbuds at its September 9 media event. Kosutami claimed that the AirPods Pro 3 are also coming “soon.” Still, it is unclear if this information is accurate, as other media sources previously reported that Apple planned to release a redesigned AirPods Pro model in 2025.

Both Apple’s low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 units are rumored to feature a revised design with better fit in the ear, improved sound quality, and an updated charging case with a USB-C port. The mid-tier AirPods 4 are also said to feature active noise cancellation and a speaker in the charging case that can play a sound for Find My location tracking.

The AirPods Max headphones are rumored to be updated later this year, albeit the only anticipated change for this model is a switch to a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning.

  • Rumor: Apple stops production of FineWoven accessories

Rumor: Apple stops production of FineWoven accessories

Sometimes you’ve got to throw in the towel on an accessory.

Per a post on X (formerly Twitter), noted leaker “Kosutami” has cited that Apple has stopped production of FineWoven accessories due to its poor durability. The company may move to another non-leather material for its premium accessories in the future.

Kosutami has offered accurate leaks as to Apple’s FineWoven products in the past as well as Apple’s plans to introduce new Apple Watch bands made of a “woven fabric material” over a month before they debuted, as well as matching iPhone cases.

Apple stopped selling leather accessories in September last year, replacing them with a more environmentally friendly “FineWoven” material that the company describes as “luxurious and durable microtwill” made from 68 percent post-consumer recycled polyester. FineWoven iPhone cases are priced at $59, MagSafe Wallets at $59, AirTag holders at $35, and Apple Watch bands at $99.

These accessories have received exceptionally poor customer reviews, which highlighted poor durability and disappointing quality. FineWoven accessories in new color options were noticeably absent from Apple’s spring refresh.

  • Details begin to surface about next-generation HomePod with touchscreen display

Details begin to surface about next-generation HomePod with touchscreen display

A series of specifications has surfaced as to a new full-size HomePod that Apple is believed to be working on, complete with a touchscreen display for the first time. The new HomePod is rumored to launch as soon as the first half of this year.

Per noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the HomePod will feature a 7-inch display supplied by China’s Tianma. According to Apple leaker and prototype collector “Kosutami,” the device will purportedly feature a virtually identical design to the second-generation ‌HomePod‌ but with a large LCD touch screen at the top instead of the LED array used on all ‌HomePod‌ models to date.

This report has been subsequently corroborated by other sources, and is said to be in active development under the codename “B720”. Given code references found in tvOS 17, Apple Music and Apple Podcasts are among the first apps being rewritten to be compatible with the new display, which will show a blurred animation based on the colors of the album art when a song or podcast is playing. The screen could also potentially show important notifications.

Back in December, Kosutami leaked additional prototype images, including a curved, convex LCD screen to display content at the top.

The updated HomePod could also feature a new chip, and the 2023 HomePod features the S7 chip, which was also used in the 2021 Apple Watch Series 7.

According to Kuo, the next-generation HomePod’s display could facilitate deeper integration with Apple’s other hardware products, Kuo believes. The updated ‌HomePod‌ could conceivably introduce a lower-latency Handoff experience with the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip used in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. The smart speaker could also include improved audio hardware and microphones, along with specification upgrades like Wi-Fi 6E support.

It’s currently unknown if the touchscreen ‌HomePod‌ will be a direct replacement for the second-generation ‌HomePod‌ or a new, high-end offering in the lineup.

Apple is believed to be rethinking its long-term smart home strategy. It is reportedly working on a combined Apple TV and HomePod device, as well as a ‌HomePod‌ with a screen mounted on a robotic arm.

  • Leak indicates that Apple could change the way its bands connect to next-gen Apple Watch units, rendering current bands obsolete

Leak indicates that Apple could change the way its bands connect to next-gen Apple Watch units, rendering current bands obsolete

A leaker has noted that Apple may be changing how its bands connect to its Apple Watch products, thereby rendering all existing bands incompatible with forthcoming Apple Watch units.

It’s been strongly rumored before that the Apple Watches being released in 2024 will feature a major redesign to mark the tenth anniversary of the device. Specifically, it’s already been claimed that the Apple Watch Series 10 or perhaps Series X, will replace how bands connect.

According to a tweet by leaker Kosutami, Apple is planning this change for future generations of the Apple Watch. It’s unknown where this information was sourced from, and no sources or attributions have been provided, but Kosutami has previously leaked correctly about FineWoven bands before they launched.

Prior to that, Kosutami leaked about unused color options that Apple had considered for a MagSafe charger, but rejected. It has appeared, though, that the leaker at least has some access to Design Validation Test models of some Apple devices.

It’s also been speculated that the change could affect not only the standard Apple Watch units, but also the Apple Watch Ultra models.

Previous rumors have suggested that Apple may be switching over to a new magnetic system which would be how the bands would connect.
