  • Rumor: Apple to incorporate stacked logic board architecture, larger battery into next-gen iPhone

    This is kind of neat.

It’s rumored that the next-gen iPhone will adopt a higher-cost stacked logic board design to support longer battery life.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the stacked logic board, also known as a “substrate-like PCB mainboard,” will result in the “iPhone 8” with an OLED display having similar dimensions to a 4.7-inch iPhone, yet comparable battery life to a 5.5-inch iPhone. Kuo stated that he expects the device to have around a 2,700 mAh L-shaped two-cell battery pack.

  • LG UltraFine 5K monitors experiencing errors within two meters of wireless routers

Well, this is kind of a mess.

LG’s UltraFine 5K monitor, which has become something of a spiritual successor to Apple’s Thunderbolt display and began shipping out from the Apple online store this week, appears to be suffering from a major fault wherein it will begin flickering when places within two meters (6.5 feet) of a wireless router. Once the flickering has begun, the monitor will go black and become unusable.

An LG Electronics support person confirmed the issue, saying it “only happens for the 5K monitors we have, not other LG monitors.”

It’s also been noted that, if plugged into a MacBook Pro, the failure can lead to being forced to reboot the notebook to bring it back. The failure does not occur when the monitor is out of a two meter range of a wireless router.

  • Rumor: iPhone 8 to receive OLED display, updated 3D Touch sensor hardware

The current rumors are in and according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new OLED iPhone will use a flexible display panel, which will likely allow it to curve around the sides of the main chassis. However, this makes it incompatible with the existing 3D Touch pressure sensors seen in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7.

As a result, the next-gen iPhone will switch from a ‘FBCB sensor to a film sensor’, offering higher sensitivity and a wider range of 3D Touch pressure levels.

The next-gen iPhone prototypes are here.

    And they are both varied.

A number of sources have claimed Apple will launch its first iPhone with a curved OLED display next year.

A new report claims an OLED version could be introduced as one of several new iPhone models unveiled next year, but it would have a higher price tag than current iPhone models.

  • Rumor: Apple could see OLED supply constraint prior to inclusion in next-gen iPhone

    iphoneoleddisplay

One popular rumor for the next-gen iPhone is the adoption of OLED screen panels for the handset, especially given that both the Apple Watch and the Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pro now use OLED components.

Unfortunately, supply constraints may keep OLED panels further down the road.

A new report says that the four main suppliers for OLED displays won’t have enough production capacity to meet demand next year and further into 2018. This is primarily due to OLED screens being more difficult to produce than LCD panels. Right now, the four top suppliers for OLED panels are Samsung Display, LG Display, Sharp, and Japan Display. But at this point, Apple expects Samsung to be sole supplier in 2017.

Apple apparently plans to ship at least one new iPhone with an OLED screen next year, the 10th anniversary of the smartphone’s debut according to sources close to the story.
