  • Rumor: iPhone 15 models could support full 35W charging capacity, offer improved battery recharge times

Rumor: iPhone 15 models could support full 35W charging capacity, offer improved battery recharge times

The iPhone 15 is almost here and the rumor mill is abuzz as to its possible features.

Among the biggest changes expected is the replacement of the Lightning connector with USB-C. If so, this would allow for much faster charging speeds. Per a source familiar with the matter, the iPhone 15 could support charging with up to 35W.

Industry sources have told 9to5Mac that at least some of the new iPhone 15 models can be recharged with up to 35W, which should enable even faster charging speeds on the new phones. Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro is limited to charging at 27W, while the regular iPhone 14 is limited to 20W. To fully recharge an iPhone 14 Pro Max at these speeds, it takes approximately two hours.

Last year, Apple debuted a new 35W Dual USB-C charger that was capable of recharging all current iPhone models at full speed. If so, the upcoming iPhone 15 models could take advantage of all 35 watts of power provided by this specific charger when not connected to another device, as this splits the power delivery.

Apple also sells a 30W USB-C charger, which is designed for the MacBook Air but also works with iPhone and iPad.

Over on the Android end of things, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra can be recharged with up to 45W, which lets users recharge the battery from 0 percent to 100 percent in less than an hour. Although the new iPhones should take a bit longer than that to recharge at 35W, this would offer a marked improvement over the iPhone 14.

It’s presently unknown whether 35W charging will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models or whether it will work with the entire iPhone 15 lineup.

The iPhone 15 models are rumored to feature a new design with slightly curved edges, while the camera bump will be larger and the display bezels thinner. Apple will keep the same four sizes from the current iPhone 14 lineup for the new models. However, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will ditch the notch in favor of Dynamic Island.

The iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to introduce a new Action Button that will replace the Mute/Ring Switch, the A17 Bionic chip, a new titanium frame, and better cameras with a periscope lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

  • Leaked 3D CAD file hints at Action button, camera tweaks for iPhone 15 Pro units

Leaked 3D CAD file hints at Action button, camera tweaks for iPhone 15 Pro units

Following previous reports indicating that the iPhone 15 Pro would feature unified buttons with haptic feedback, it seems that Apple has gone another route for this year’s model.

Per 9to5Mac’s Ian Zelbo, who shared 3D renders from what he calls “an extremely reputable source” regarding Apple’s plans for the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple is thought to have opted for a similar approach to what it delivered with the iPhone 14 Pro, albeit with a twist: The mute switch will be replaced by a mute button, which could add additional functionality, such as an Apple Watch Ultra-like Action Button. Where the regular iPhone 15 models are concerned, Apple would retain the same buttons as seen with the iPhone 14 series.

The 3D renders also show that the iPhone 15’s camera bump may have changed. Zelbo pointed out that the protrusions are “far less comical,” or at least more subtle. He also noted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max render has an “ever so slightly larger camera bump,” which could help corroborate rumors that Apple is planning to add a periscope lens to this model with up to 6x zoom.

The CAD file also seems to corroborate the design shown by previous CADs, such as narrow bezels, a USB-C port, and a far more rounded frame of the device compared to the iPhone 14 Pro.

It’s also rumored that the iPhone 15 models could feature additional changes, such as a new design with a Dynamic Island cutout, a main lens of 48MP, and the shift from a Lightning port to USB-C.

  • iPhone 7 leak, video shows possible changes for next-gen handset

    iphone7videoleak

The iPhone 7 rumor/leak train keeps rolling on.

On Thursday, a set of leaked pictures shows an alleged iPhone 7. While there’s a chance this might be a clone that tends to emerge before a new iPhone launch, a video posted on Chinese website Weibo shows a similar design to previous leaks.

The device in the video below shows many of the characteristics we’ve seen in previous photos allegedly showing next-gen iPhone components. Most notably, those include a larger camera opening — the iPhone 7 is rumored to include a new and improved camera system —the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack, and redesigned antenna lines that are repositioned from across the back of the device to along the edge.

Other leaks have shown an even larger camera opening than the one shown in the video as well as other features like a Smart Connector and the removal of the classic mute switch. The larger camera opening could possibly be reserved for the dual-camera system expected to arrive on only some of the new models. In the video, the mute switch is once again present.

  • New iPhone 7 leaks show possible Smart Connector, lack of mute switch

    iphone7leaks

Another day, another set of iPhone 7 leaks.

Per a series of pictures released on Chinese social media website Weibo, the latest iPhone 7 photos appear to show a very similar design to the iPhone 6s Plus … with the interesting addition of a Smart Connector, visible at the bottom of the device on the back side.

In addition to previous rumors, a new rumor has sprung up about a flush capacitive Home button for the next-gen iPhone, albeit details are still murky.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the new photos of the iPhone 7 Plus do not include a mute switch. A toggle to enable and disable the ringer cannot be seen in its usual location above the volume buttons. This is the first time the removal of the mute switch has been floated for consideration, albeit the source is still considered murky at this point.

  • Apple to ship universal bumper case for GSM, CDMA iPhone 4 handsets

If you’re hankering for a Verizon iPhone and worried about needing a bumper case, Apple may be a step ahead of you.

Per Engadget, Apple has apparently worked around the problem of needing two versions of its Bumper case with the pending launch of the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network by creating a universal Bumper. The new Bumper case includes a larger switch slot that accommodates the slightly different positions of the mute switch on the two iPhone 4 models.

The iPhone 4 bumper Apple shipped months ago for GSM-based networks like AT&T, O2 and Orange, the handset using a different antenna configuration than the new CDMA-based model that will sell for Verizon’s network. That change meant Apple needed to reposition the mute switch that sits just above the iPhone’s volume buttons, making the company’s current Bumper cases incompatible with the new model.

It’s unknown whether the bumper will be free (as was the case with the iPhone 4) or available via retail.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
