Apple’s initial delivery estimates were at one to two weeks after purchase, but orders placed now will not be delivered until December 31 to January 8 due to demand for the machine.

The new Mac Pro is geared towards the professional market and starts at $5,999 for the base configuration, the price rising with available upgrades. The unit features workstation-class Xeon processors with up to 28 cores, up to 1.5TB RAM, eight PCIe slots, 4TB SSD storage (soon to be 8TB) and dual Radeon Pro Vega Duo GPUs.

A fully equipped ‌Mac Pro‌ retails for over $52,000, with the price tag even higher for those who add Apple’s $4,999 Pro Display XDR, a 6K display that’s being sold alongside the ‌Mac Pro‌.

In essence, it is the Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle from “A Christmas Story” and it’s hard not to want one, even with the moderate danger of shooting your eye out…

  • Apple warns Pro Display XDR customers not to clean display with non-Apple cleaning cloths

If you’re looking to snag Apple’s new Pro Display XDR, remember to clean it correctly.

To this end, Apple has published a new support document outlining how to keep the display clean.

The support document includes instructions for the standard Pro Display XDR, as well as for the model with the nano-texture matte coating. Apple has included a cleaning cloth with each Pro Display XDR, which is integral to the cleaning process.

Apple has stated that users can use the Apple polishing cloth or any other “clean, dry microfiber cloth” to wipe dust and smudges from the display. The instructions state to use “a small amount of water” if you need to do any additional cleaning of the glass, and it cautions against using any screen cleaner that contains acetone.

Where the Pro Display XDR with Apple’s nano-texture matte coating, Apple has stated that users should never use a non-Apple cloth to clean the nano-texture glass, nor should they use water or any other liquids. Users will have to contact Apple for a special replacement cloth should they lose theirs, as described below:

Use only the dry polishing cloth that comes with your display to wipe dust or smudges off the screen. Don’t add water or use other liquids to clean the nano-texture glass. Never use any other cloths to clean the nano-texture glass. If you lose the included polishing cloth, you can contact Apple to order a replacement polishing cloth.

The nano-texture matte finish for the Pro Display XDR is an added $1,000 upgrade. According to Apple, this nano-texture coating offers “glass etched at the nanometer level for low reflectivity and less glare.” Presumably, this sort of advanced engineering is why you shouldn’t use any non-Apple polishing cloth to keep the display clean.

Apple has also offered the following directions to clean the cleaning cloth:

    1. Hand wash the polishing cloth with dish soap and water.

    2. Rinse thoroughly.

    3. Allow the polishing cloth to air dry for at least 24 hours.

If you’ve managed to snag a Pro Display XDR and have any feedback to offer, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
