Rumor: Apple Vision Pro headset will require an appointment and custom fitting, and initially only be available in select Apple Store locations

Suppose you’re looking to snag an Apple Vision Pro headset upon its release. In that case, you’ll need to make an appointment and it’ll initially only be available through a limited number of Apple Stores. The purpose of this is to ensure a correct fit for customers and to work around any prescription glasses they have.

According to Bloomberg, the device will expand both nationally and internationally in late 2024. Each of Apple’s US stores will ultimately have an area devoted to the Vision Pro, with demo units, accessories, and seating.

The Bloomberg article also noted that Apple is apparently developing both an iPhone app and a physical device where each will scan a person’s head prior to purchase. However, these features are said to be coming first to the largest stores, or ones in key locations such as Los Angeles and New York. A nationwide rollout should follow shortly afterward.

It’s also been noted that the Vision Pro headset will be sold through the online Apple Store in early 2024, and then expand to other, unspecified, online stores, but the publication says that will not include third-party resellers until at least 2025.

Unspecified sources have stated that the UK and Canada are being discussed as the first international markets, followed by Asia and Europe. No decision has been made about the countries it will be sold in, but it’s claimed that Apple is currently localizing the headset for France, Germany, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea.

  • Apple Store locations receive new directives to help curb the spread of Coronavirus

In the wake of the coronavirus, Apple is pulling out the stops to try to stop the spread of the disease at its retail locations.

Apple Stores have taken a number of measures to try and help limit the spread of the Coronavirus. Most noticeably, all Apple retail locations have now been closed in Italy.

In total, 17 Italian locations are now shut. In a statement, Apple said:

As we support the work to contain and manage the spread of Covid-19, our priority remains the health and safety of everyone in the communities we serve.

The company has also canceled all upcoming “Today at Apple” sessions set to take place in its San Francisco, Bay Area, and Seattle locations.

Staff at its retail locations have apparently been told to limit physical contact with customers, and management has removed half the available seating in order to stop people from loitering. The locations are also operating below capacity at the direction of new rules introduced on Tuesday. The instructions vary depending on the size and location of the Apple Store retail outlet.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
