  • Apple releases additional macOS Supplemental Update for macOS 10.15.6 Catalina, addresses Wi-Fi, iCloud Drive bugs

    You can’t knock a timely update.

    Apple on Thursday released a new supplemental update to macOS 10.15.6 Catalina. The update addresses issues with Wi-Fi and iCloud.

    The latest macOS 10.15.6 Supplemental Update arrives about one month after a previous update patched bugs related to virtualization and waking from sleep.

    The update fixes a bug that prevents Mac devices from automatically connecting to Wi-Fi, as well as repairs an issue that caused iCloud Drive file syncing problems.

    Users can locate, download, and install the macOS 10.15.6 Catalina Supplemental Update by heading to System Preferences and Software Update on their Macs. The update carries a build number of 19G2531.

    The update is thought to be one of the final major updates prior to the transition to macOS Big Sur later this year.

  • Apple releases macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Supplemental Update, patches security vulnerabilities

    You can’t say the updates aren’t coming out quickly.

    One week after its macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update, Apple on Monday afternoon released its macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Supplemental Update.

    The release notes read as follows:

    macOS Catalina 10.15.5 supplemental update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.

    Some features may not be available for all regions, or on all Apple devices. For detailed information about the security content of this update, please visit: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211215

    The support article highlights how the update fixes a kernel exploit that could allow an application to execute arbitrary code. Apple directly referred to the unc0ver exploit that allowed users to jailbreak iOS devices.

    macOS Catalina 10.15.5 introduced battery health management to the operating system, which first appeared in iPhones and was originally released on May 27th.

  • Apple releases macOS Catalina 10.15.4 Supplemental Update

    Sometimes you need a good bug fix.

    Apple on Wednesday released its macOS Catalina 10.15.4 Supplemental Update. The update, a 1.01 gigabyte download, offers the following features and fixes:

    • Fixes an issue where Mac computers running macOS Catalina 10.15.4 could not participate in FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier
    • Resolves an issue where you may repeatedly receive a password prompt for an Office 365 account
    • Fixes an issue where MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020) may hang in Setup Assistant or when disconnecting and reconnecting a 4K or 5K external display
    • Resolves an issue where a USB-C port in your Mac may become unresponsive

  • Apple releases macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental Update, chases after performance-related bugs, security issue

    Apple on Monday released its macOS Mojave 10.14.6, the update including a security fix, as well as patches for assorted performance issues and a bug that could prevent some of Apple’s own apps from updating.

    The fixes and changes are as follows:

    • Resolves an issue that may cause certain Mac notebooks to shut down during sleep
    • Fixes an issue that may degrade performance when working with very large files
    • Addresses an issue that may prevent Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, and GarageBand from updating

    Apple also released the following details as to a security vulnerability that was fixed:

    Impact: A malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with system privileges

    Description: A use after free issue was addressed with improved memory management.

    CVE-2019-8605: Ned Williamson working with Google Project Zero
