  • At least 30 airlines now allow for luggage tracking via iOS’ Find My feature

At least 30 airlines now allow for luggage tracking via iOS’ Find My feature

It’s never easy to fly, but this could help.

Back in December, Apple released iOS 18.2 with a new feature in the Find My app that allows you to temporarily share the location of an AirTag-equipped item with others, including employees at participating airlines. This way, if you have put AirTags inside your bags, the airline can better help you find them in the event they are lost or delayed at the airport.

The feature also works with other item trackers that support the Find My network, such as products sold by Chipolo and Pebblebee. As such, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later can generate a “Share Item Location” link in the Find My app. From there, they can share a link that allows them to view the item’s location on a map and automatically updates with the item’s latest location. The item’s location stops being shared “as soon as a user is reunited with their item,” or automatically expires after seven days.

The following is a list of aidlines that currently support the feature:

    • AJet
    • Aer Lingus
    • Air Canada
    • Air France
    • Air India
    • Air New Zealand
    • American Airlines
    • Austrian Airlines
    • Breeze Airways
    • British Airways
    • Brussels Airlines
    • Cathay Pacific
    • China Airlines
    • Delta
    • Eurowings
    • Finnair
    • Iberia
    • JetBlue
    • KLM
    • Lufthansa
    • Porter Airlines
    • Qantas
    • Saudia
    • Singapore Airlines
    • SunExpress
    • SWISS
    • Turkish Airlines
    • United
    • Virgin Atlantic
    • Vueling

There may be others that offer support for the feature, and if you’ve heard anything, please let us know in the comments.

  • Additional airlines add Find My item support to help customers locate lost luggage

Additional airlines add Find My item support to help customers locate lost luggage

A number of airlines this week implemented support for Apple’s new iOS 18.2 Find My item location-sharing feature, which helps track down lost luggage and other items.

The full list of airlines now features United, Delta, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Turkish Airlines, Aer Lingus, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Eurowings, and Iberia Airlines.

After updating to iOS 18.2, the new Share Item Location feature allows you to create a link that lets someone see the location of a lost item when they open it up. Links can be opened on a non-Apple device using a web browser, so people with an iPhone, iPad, or Mac can help you locate something that’s lost, such as your luggage.

The Find My links that are shared expire after a one-week period, and users can see how many people have viewed the link. The shared links stop working once a lost item has been returned to you, when the link-sharing date expires, or when you opt to stop sharing the location of an item. Share Item Location is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous, so Apple and accessory manufacturers are unable to view an item’s location or information.

Additional airlines are planning to add support, including Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
