Tokyo: Apple Booth Shrouded in Secrecy

Chiba, Japan — Go2Mac.com is reporting live from Macworld Expo Tokyo 2001 all week. After landing and a short bus ride to the Makuhari Messe Convention Center, Go2Mac operatives were able to shoot these exclusive photos of the Apple booth the day before the show opens.

For the first time the Apple booth is completely surrounded by a 10-foot high black curtain and a healthy dose of security guards. Even the four 25-foot tall banners at each corner of the Apple booth had one side covered with black cloth. If that wasn’t enough, the glass door entrances to the show floor were covered with white paper to prevent the curious from getting a peek.

I guess we’ll have to wait until Steve Jobs’ keynote address at 9:30 AM Tokyo time to see what all the secrecy is about. Our guess: new iMacs with DVD/CDRW drives and possibly a refresh of the iBook line.

Apple will be providing a QuickTime Webcast of Steve Jobs’ keynote address but it will not be streamed. Instead, it will be available after the keynote is over. If you really need a fix (and have a satellite dish) you will be able to watch the broadcast live on satellite.

Be sure to tune in to Go2Mac today at 8 PM EST (5 PM PST) for coverage of the announcements and all week for more from Tokyo.
