VST Announces Full Line of PowerBook Accessories; New Storage and Power Accessories Including Zip 250, CD-R/W, FireWire and USB Products

TOKYO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 15, 2000–VST Technologies, Inc. today announced a complete line of storage and power accessories for the new Macintosh PowerBook(R) Series announced today by Apple(R) Computer, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) at MacWorld Tokyo. The Company plans to demonstrate their new PowerBook products at MacWorld EXPO in Tokyo February 16th at VST booth # 418. The products may also be seen in Apple Computer’s booth.

The new VST storage products include the VST Zip(R)250 which employs a new portable 250 megabyte Iomega Zip drive mechanism, the VST CD-R/W the world’s first expansion bay CD-R/W drive for PowerBook, the VST Hard Drive series, including 6, 12 and 18 gigabyte capacities, a 4x DVD-ROM Drive, and the VST SuperDisk Drive which reads and writes both Imation 120MB diskettes as well as 1.4MB floppy diskettes. With FireWire now built-in to every new PowerBook, any VST FireWire device (ultra-portable series, now in Graphite) may be powered directly from the PowerBook without an external power supply. VST’s new 250MB FireWire Zip drive (ultra-portable series, now in Graphite) is also compatible, and no external power supply is required. VST’s USB products are also directly compatible with the USB ports provided in every new PowerBook, including the USB Floppy Drive, Hard Drive and Tri-Media Reader. The VST Tri-Media Reader is a USB powered device reads and writes to SmartMedia, CompactFlash and 1.4MB floppy disks.

VST’s power products include a two-position VST Smart-Charger for the Apple PowerBook lithium-ion batteries, a DC Automobile Adapter, and an Airline Power Adapter. VST’s new Airline Power Adapter is compliant and compatible with new EmPower(TM) DC power ports available on an increasing number of commercial aircraft world-wide. VST will also bundle an Apple Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery and Apple AC adapter together with the VST Smart-Charger.

The VST Expansion Bay Hard Drives in 6, 12 and 18 Gigabyte capacities, combine greater capacity with hot-plug/unplug support and very fast transfer speeds, up to 12.5 MB/sec with DMA support. The VST Hard Drive series may also be used as the boot volume, offering users a means for full backup of the internal drive, including a bootable operating system. The VST Zip250 is also fast, with data transfer speeds of better than 2.2MB/Sec. The VST SuperDisk Drive reads and writes standard 1.4MB floppies as well as 120MB Imation diskettes. The PowerBook’s hot swappable expansion bay allows users to alternate from a DVD-ROM, CD-R/W, VST Hard Drive, VST Zip Drive or VST SuperDisk without the need to shut down, sleep or restart the system.
