What happens when you’re on the road (without your trusty PowerBook) and you need to find directions, a movie schedule, sports scores, the latest stock quotes, the kind of information that is only a few keystrokes away with an Internet connection and your PowerBook? Now you can make your pager work for you when you’re away from an Internet connection. WolfeTech’s Pocket Genie software allows users to receive information via push and pull menus that send agents to Web sites to bring back the information you requested. By next year you’ll be able to type in a URL and the Web site’s text will download to your pager. You won’t get any graphics, but links will work.
PocketGenie integrates with the Motorola PageWriter 2000 and RIM Inter@ctive Pager 950. Both of these pagers are slightly larger than normal pagers and come equipped with miniature backlit screens and tiny keyboards. These pagers can also send and receive e-mail and faxes. Currently, this service is limited to the Web sites that WolfeTech stores on its servers, but it plans to expand the PocketGenie software for use with cell phones, Win CE devices and PDAs.
