WWDC: Apple references possible M1X-based MacBook Pro in WWDC keynote speech metadata

Amidst the rumors of a MacBook Pro being debuted at WWDC, which didn’t happen, a cluster of metadata attached to the WWDC keynote video indicates that Apple might actually have been planning to launch the new MacBook Pro this week after all.

Within the keyword tags for Apple’s official WWDC YouTube video, the search terms “m1x” and “M1X MacBook Pro have been discovered and reported by Max Balzer on Twitter.

It’s thought that the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro notebooks could incorporate the next-generation Apple Silicon hardware, complete with eight high-performance cores and two power-efficiency cores, alongside the return of an HDMI port and an SD card reader, along with a high-contrast mini-LED display similar to the one seen in the latest generation of iPad Pro.

In addition to confirming that new MacBook Pros are at least somewhat imminent, it also reveals Apple’s branding intentions for the new Mac chip as ‘M1X’.

The M1X processor is thought to offer better CPU performance compared to the M1, and could feature up to 32GPU cores, as well as support up to 64 GB RAM. It’s also thought that dual and quad M1X variants of this chip are expected to drive future iMac Pro and Mac Pro models.

It’s unknown as to exactly when Apple will launch these devices or debut the reported M1X processor.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
