You Know When the Internet is Big When…

When Nintendo announces (“Nintendo Announces Game Boy 2!“) that the next Game Boy will feature Internet access. That’s right, Internet access via a cell phone.

Game Boy Advance will use a 32-bit RISC CPU developed by Cambridge, UK based ARM corporation, a company who produced the first RISC-based home PC. In addition to sporting a powerful 32-bit CPU, and 20 hours of battery life, Game Boy Advance will be able to connect to a cellular phone to access the Internet, thus allowing users to download game software, participate in multi-player games, chat and exchange E-mail. Using a planned digital camera accessory (not the existing Game Boy Camera), a game player would actually be able to see the face of the person they are playing against. This feature had previously been discussed for existing Game Boy Color technology ? a technology which is still planned for release.
