A while I purchased one of Apple’s set top boxes. Well It turns out that it is a prototypoe that they had sent to The Lightspan Partnership Inc. The US Patent Numbers are 4631603, 4577216, and 4819098.

Ok, so lets look inside. Uopon opening the box I first noticed a plastic cage like the drive slides on the LC all-in-ones. There a serveral chips that stand out like the C-Cube Microsystems MPEG decoder, two Texas Instrument Chips, one Philips, one Xlinx, and a Motorola 68LC04. Currently I can’t get it to go past the startup phase but I will post more if I am able to move forward.

Detailed pictures of a similar model can be found on AppleFritter.
