Rumor: Apple looking to incorporate landscape Face ID for iOS 12 and iPads

There are rumors as to what’s en route for iOS 13.

And, logically, there are rumors as to what to expect in iOS 12.

Per the rumor mill, Apple is planning on bringing landscape orientation support to Face ID in iOS 12. This could function as a feature for an iPad that unlocks using your face instead of your fingerprint.

The rumor mill has also cited supply chain sources that say Apple is working on and iPhone X Plus with a 6.5-inch screen packed into an iPhone 8 Plus-size body.

Face ID is currently only available on the iPhone X, and works only in a vertical orientation. Horizontal orientation, were it to be implemented, would be almost essential for the iPad.

Apple hasn’t confirmed the feature, and probably won’t talk about it at Worldwide Developer Conference in June unless a Face ID-capable iPad is unveiled at the same time. Considering Apple’s penchant for surprise announcements, this probably won’t be confirmed until Face ID-ready iPads are unveiled.

So, stay tuned for our WWDC coverage in June and we’ll let you know if Touch ID is on its way out and Face ID is en route to an iPad near you.
