  • Rumor: Almost all of Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” media event, product details leaked

Rumor: Almost all of Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” media event, product details leaked

Someone may have just leaked the whole can of worms as to Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” media event, which is scheduled for Monday, September 9.

Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the event will include not only the iPhone 16, but the Apple Watch X, Apple Watch SE, and budget AirPods.

Apple can be expected to announce the four iPhone models in the form of the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will look practically the same as their 2023 siblings, rocking 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens with the same aluminum design. The units will feature a faster processor, 8GB of memory, and the Action button from the Pro models. Vertical cameras for fancy spatial video recording may also be included.

Where the Pro and Pro Max models are concerned, the screen sizes will go up to 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max, complete with thinner bezels for that slightly sleeker feel. The Pro will receive a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, 5x optical zoom for the smaller Pro, and a new DSLR-style Capture button. The Pro models are also expected to trade in blue for gold titanium.

Apple can also be expected to launch the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. The Series 10 will probably receive the most attention, and while there’s been some debate as to whether it will be called the “Apple Watch Series X” given that 2024 marks the tenth anniversary of the device, Gurman’s report calls it the “Series 10.” At present, the Apple Watch Series 10 is rumored to feature a thinner case and larger screen, though not much for Apple Intelligence incorporation to date.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is expected to receive some internal tweaks, and sleep apnea detection can be expected to be a major new feature, even if blood-oxygen sensing doesn’t return. The new Apple Watch SE is the first update in two years. Expect slightly improved performance under the hood and the usual focus on fitness tracking and basic health features.

Both new entry-level and mid-tier AirPods, and both will have a look inspired by the AirPods Pro and bring USB-C charging. The mid-tier version steps things up with a speaker on the case, Find My support, and noise cancellation. There’s also a growing focus on hearing health, with future updates turning AirPods into makeshift hearing aids, but those features are probably delayed.

  • Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts next-gen iPad Pro with rear 3D sensing feature, iPhone SE 2 to launch in first half of 2020

Per fabled analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next-gen iPad Pro models will be released in the first half of 2020 and feature a rear 3D sensing feature.

In a research note with TF International Securities, Kuo said the iPad Pro models will gain 3D sensing through the rear-facing camera system. Apple is expected to use a time-of-flight system, which measures the time that it takes for light to bounce off of objects in a room to generate a 3D map.

This measure up with previous reports, including Mark Gurman’s report for Bloomberg that stated that the next-gen iPad Pro would feature dual rear cameras along with a new augmented reality sensor.

Kuo’s report also reiterated Apple’s plans to release an ‘iPhone SE 2″ device in the first half of 2020. He previously noted that the device will offer similar features as the iPhone 8, including a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID, but with a faster A13 chip and 3GB of RAM.

The low-cost iPhone will likely start around $399 with 64GB of storage, and come in Space Gray, Silver, and Red, according to Kuo.

Given that Apple typically holds a media event in March, it’s not impossible to see these products being unveiled around then.

  • Rumor: Apple to abandon Touch ID in favor of facial recognition for next-gen iPhones

A new KGI Securities investor note has stated that Apple’s Face ID may be the way of the future for upcoming iPhones and could leave Touch ID in the dust.

KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, in a recently published note, said that Apple is likely to go all-in on 3D sensing.

The analyst writes that 3D sensing will be a “key selling point” of all new 2018 iPhone models. While Apple currently faces manufacturing difficulties with 3D sensing, Kuo says TrueDepth cameras and Face ID will help Apple “capitalize on its clear lead in 3D sensing design and production for smartphones.”
