Apple adds accident and hazard reporting feature for Apple Maps in Germany

If you’re an iPhone user in Germany, this should come in handy.

Apple has updated Apple Maps in Germany, allowing users within the country to now be able to report road hazards and/or traffic accidents within the app.

While users of Apple Maps in the United States and China have been able to do this since the release of iOS 14.5, German users are now able to report the same events for their roads and highways.

When on the road, users can submit a report within Apple Maps, through an option labeled “Storung Melden,” according to Macerkopf. Selecting it, users can then choose either “Unfall” (Accident) or “Gefahr” (Danger), depending on the kind of report they wish to make.

Following a brief countdown, which allows users to cancel the message before it’s submitted, the report is then uploaded to Apple Maps and can be used to alert other users of problems in the area.

While the addition functionally works similar to the US version — first seen in iOS 14.5 — it does not include an option to warn other drivers that a speed check is in operation at a specific place.

If you’ve had a chance to try the new feature over in Germany, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
