Apple CEO Tim Cook cites AirPods Max shortages, said widespread availability could be a few months away

The AirPods Max headphones that you’re hankering for may be in short supply for a while.

In an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the AirPods Max units are expected to be in very short supply over the coming months into Q2.

The units have been difficult to come by since they were released back in mid-December and currently won’t arrive until late February or early March if you tried to order them from Apple.

At present, the AirPods Max can be found at Apple’s Amazon store for delivery over the next few days. The headphones are available in silver and space gray for the standard $549 price point. They can also be found, though only in the silver color, at Verizon, and all of the other colors are reportedly sold out.

Per Tim Cook, Apple likely won’t have wide availability until April. They’ve popped up in stock sporadically at different Apple stores over the past few weeks, so you might still get lucky. But for the moment, this is your best chance.

In yesterday’s Q1 2021 earnings call, Apple CFO Luca Maestri stated that the iPhone has seen some supply constraints as well. Maestri noted that the company will probably have a solution around March, indicating that the wide availability of all iPhone models would probably have to wait until April.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
