Apple encourages iPhone 5 users to update to iOS 10.3.4 prior to November 3rd

We all have that friend that refuses to update their version of iOS on their older iPhone.

It’s time for them to update.

Back in July, Apple released rare bug-fix updates for older versions of its operating system: iOS 10.3.4 and iOS 9.3.6. This was necessary to help keep older iPhones and iPads maintain accurate location functionality as the GPS network goes through a time rollover transition.

Given that the issue is even more serious for the iPhone 5, Apple has sent out alerts to owners of the handset stating that they must update to iOS 10.3.4 before November 3rd. Should the iPhone 5 not be updated in time, the handset will be unable to connect to the internet entirely, including web browsing in Safari, email, iCloud and App Store services.

iPhone 5 owners will be presented with the dialog box stating that they need to perform the update.

Should users miss the update by the November 3rd deadline, they’ll need to connect to a computer and restore with iTunes on a PC or Mac.

To update to the bug-fix release, simply go to Settings -> Software Update.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
