  • iOS 10 update could make millions of iPads obsolete upon release

    ios10logo

iOS 10 might just push you to snag an updated iPad to run it.

During Monday’s keynote, Apple announced that it would drop support for the iPad 2, the iPad 3 and the first-gem iPad mini.

Upon iOS 10’s release, up to 40 percent of all iPads could become obsolete according to mobile engagement form Localytics.

  • iOS 9.3.2 update bricks some 9.7-inch iPad Pro tablets, Apple exploring the issue

    ipadpromini

    iOS 9.3.2 has arrived.

And it appears to have bricked some 9.7-inch iPad Pro tablets in the process.

A number of users are seeing an “Error 56” message after upgrading to iOS 9.3.2, and finding their devices bricked.

The error instructs affected users to connect to iTunes, but doing so and attempting to restore or update the iPad doesn’t work.

  • A few of my favorite things: Waterfield and Peralta bags for the iPad Pro

    Waterfield's Field Muzetto bag

Having a good bag is almost as important as having good equipment in the first place. If you spent good money on an iPad or MacBook it makes no sense to have your sweet hardware bouncing around in a poorly-constructed vessel that costs less than your Uber fare. It’s also a shame to tuck your beautiful Apple hardware into an unsightly “computer bag” which is why I love Waterfield bags.

I’ve been recommending Waterfield’s stitched-in-San Francisco products since 1999. If you’ve recently acquired a new iPad Pro, or your old bag needs to be updated, Waterfield’s got two great new products that I can’t recommend highly enough: the Field Muzetto and the Peralta Scarlett iPad Pro Sleeve.

  • Apple adds Bluetooth support to assorted iPhone, iPad models

It’s not unexpected by any means.

And it’s a cool bell and whistle.

Apple has published changes to its tech specs following its September 9th announcement of the 2015 iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro and iPad mini 4. With these changes, Apple quietly modified the tech specs and comparison pages for 2014’s iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPad Air 2 to bump them all from Bluetooth 4.0 to Bluetooth 4.2, the latest version of the increasingly popular wireless standard. While the sixth-generation iPod touch shipped with Bluetooth 4.1, the original iPad Air, iPad mini 2, and iPhone 5s all remain on Bluetooth 4.0.

  • iFixit posts iPad mini 4 teardown, notes iPad Air 2 components, space-saving tricks

    ipadmini4

The cool cats at iFixit just tore into the newly-released iPad mini 4 and found that it’s essentially the iPad Air 2 components squeezed into a smaller form factor.

The new tablet uses the iPad Air 2’s fully laminated screen technology, which lends itself to a thinner design. The glass and display are adhered together, giving it a more rigid design and making screen repairs more difficult. iFixit also notes that the iPad mini has retained a battery design that makes it easy to disconnect, unlike the battery found in the larger iPads. Another small similarity between the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 is that the Touch ID cable is now integrated directly into the display cable.
