  • Apple releases updated USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, complete with HDMI 2.0 support

    This should come in handy.

    Apple has released an updated version of its USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. The new version adds an HDMI 2.0 port to connect your Mac or iPad Pro to an external display. The previous incarnation feature an HDMI 1.4b port.

    The adapter features a USB port to connect peripherals with, as well as a USB-C port for power.

    Users can use 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz resolutions on the following:

    iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd Generation), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017 and later), iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017 and later), iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017 and later), and iMac Pro (2018)

    Users can also use 1080p at 60Hz or UHD (3840 x 2160) at 30Hz on the following:

    MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016 and later), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), iMac (non-Retina, 21.5‑inch, 2017), and Mac mini (2018)

    To get these resolutions and refresh rates requires you to have macOS 10.14.6 or later, or iOS 12.4 or later.

    The adapter is available for $69.

  • Apple releases macOS Mojave 10.14.6 update

    Rounding out a day of hefty updates, Apple released macOS Mojave 10.14.6 on Monday, the new version adding the following fixes and changes to the operating system:

    • Makes downloaded issues available in the My Magazines section of Apple News+, both online and offline
    • Adds all publications in Apple News+, including newspapers, to the catalog at the top of the News+ feed
    • Adds the ability to clear downloaded magazine issues in Apple News+ by selecting History > Clear > Clear All
    • Addresses an issue which prevents creation of a new Boot Camp partition on iMac and Mac mini with Fusion Drive
    • Resolves an issue that may cause a hang during a restart
    • Resolves a graphics issue that may occur when waking from sleep
    • Fixes an issue that may cause fullscreen video to appear black on Mac mini
    • Improves file sharing reliability over SMB
    • Improves stability and reliability of the operating system

    The update can be snagged via macOS Mojave’s software update feature.

  • Apple releases macOS Mojave 10.14.5 Boot Camp Update, addresses issues pertaining to Mac Mini, iMac units with Fusion Drives

    If you have an iMac or a Mac mini with a Fusion Drive, this is going to come in handy.

    Apple recently released its macOS Mojave 10.14.5 Boot Camp Update, a small, supplemental update designed for iMac and Mac mini users with Fusion Drive installs.

    The update, which operates as a fix to Boot Camp, allows Boot Camp to create a hard drive partition to run Windows. The fix repairs a bug that prevented the creation of a new Boot Camp partition on iMac and Mac mini with a Fusion Drive.

    The update can be downloaded from Apple’s support page, and not through the regular update channel in System Preferences because it’s only for iMac and Mac mini users.

  • Apple publishes list of macOS Catalina-compatible machines

    macOS 10.15 Catalina was announced yesterday, bringing with it the question of whether or not your Mac can handle it.

    Apple, in turn, has published the following list of macOS Catalina-compatible Macs.

    It goes as follows:

    • MacBook: 2015 and later
    • iMac: 2012 and later
    • MacBook Air: 2012 and later
    • iMac Pro: 2017 and later (all models)
    • MacBook Pro: 2012 and later
    • Mac Pro: 2013 and later
    • Mac mini: 2012 and later

  • Apple places certified refurbished 2018 MacBook Air, Mac mini units, for sale in the United States

    If you’re hankering for a certified refurbished 2018 MacBook Air or Mac mini in the United States, Apple just began selling them as of Friday.

    In the United States, refurbished pricing starts at $1,019 for the base model MacBook Air, down from $1,199 brand new, and $679 for the base model Mac mini, down from $799 brand new. Various other custom configurations are available for each Mac with discounts up to 15 percent versus brand new prices. 

    Orders placed today are estimated for delivery by early next week.

    Apple has stated that certified refurbished MacBook Air and Mac mini units are thoroughly inspected, tested, cleaned, and repackaged. The units also include all manuals and cables in the box. The machines are also backed by Apple’s standard one-year warranty, which can be extended to three years from the refurbished purchase date with the purchase of an AppleCare+ plan.
