  • ChatGPT gains Xcode integration/functionality

    ChatGPT gains Xcode integration/functionality

If you love being able to use ChatGPT for coding, you’re going to like this. The ChatGPT app is now able to integrate with coding apps such as Xcode, VS Code, TextEdit, and Terminal, making life that much simpler on the developer end.

When ChatGPT is given permission to interact with an app like Xcode through a new Work with Apps feature, a selection of code can be sent directly to ChatGPT alongside a prompt.

TechCrunch, which was offered a demo of the feature, offered the following description:

“In a demo with TechCrunch, an OpenAI employee opened the ChatGPT app and an Xcode environment containing a simple project modeling the solar system – although it was missing the Earth. The employee selected an Xcode tab within ChatGPT, which tells the AI chatbot to look at the app, and prompted the chatbot to ‘add the missing planets.’ The chatbot was able to complete the task, writing a line of code to represent the Earth that matched the rest of the project’s format.”

As of October, GitHub incorporated Copilot integration to Xcode, Copilot providing assistance within the Xcode app. While ChatGPT’s integration is not that deep, and it is not able to write code in Xcode, ChatGPT can instead use the macOS Accessibility API for screen readers that allows apps to read text, which also means that it cannot interpret images or videos.

The new ChatGPT for Mac feature is available for ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams users starting today, with Enterprise and Edu support coming in the near future. OpenAI has also stated that it plans to bring this integration to other apps.

  • British wireless carrier post provides hint as to iOS 18.2 release date

British wireless carrier post provides hint as to iOS 18.2 release date

Following up on Apple’s confirmation that the iOS 18.2 update will be released sometime in December, a specific release date may have surfaced.

Based on a recent notice that British carrier EE provided to its customers, EE said it will be discontinuing an iPhone feature known as “Wi-Fi calling on other supported iCloud-connected devices” on December 9. The feature enables users to make Wi-Fi calls on devices like the iPad and Mac, even when their iPhone is not nearby.

The second developer beta of iOS 18.2 released last week shipped with a new EE carrier settings version numbered 60.5.2, up from 59.5.1 on the first iOS 18.2 beta and iOS 18.1. The new carrier settings version removed the “Add Wi-Fi Calling For Other Devices” toggle from the Wi-Fi Calling section in the Settings app on iPhones used by EE customers, in line with the carrier announcing that it will stop offering the feature next month.

Given that most carrier setting updates are bundled with iOS updates, apart from bug fix releases, EE may have incidentally revealed a December 9 release date for the iOS 18.2 update.

The iOS 18.2 update includes additional Apple Intelligence features for iPhone 15 Pro models and all iPhone 16 models, including Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration for Siri, and more. The update also adds a new Defaults section in the Settings app, an item location sharing feature in the Find My app, and more for compatible iPhone models.

  • Apple, EU negotiate DMA terms, iOS users to be offered the option to use Google Maps and Google Translate as default apps

Apple, EU negotiate DMA terms, iOS users to be offered the option to use Google Maps and Google Translate as default apps

If you’re in Europe and looking to choose an alternate map/GPS and translation app, you’re going to like this.

Apple continues to negotiate with the EU regarding its regulatory compliance. In a new document released by the company, Apple has announced plans to enable setting default apps for navigation and translation soon. This will allow users to finally make Google Maps their default map app if desired and Google Translate their default translation app.

On Friday, Apple released its latest update on compliance with the EU’s DMA (Digital Markets Act). The published document mostly focused on the actions Apple has already taken to comply with the DMA.

As of spring 2025, Apple will add support for setting defaults for both navigation and translation apps.

While Apple Maps has continued to steadily improve over the years since its launch, many users still prefer Google Maps. The same can also be said for Google’s Translate app.
