FCC to hold 5G auction/Rural Broadband Fundraiser on December 10th

Because infrastructure’s a good thing.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced a 5G auction, alongside a $20.4 billion rural broadband fund.

The auction will take place on December 10, this marking the largest rang of airwaves the FCC has auctioned for use at one time. The 5G auction will consist of 3400 MHz frequencies, available in three different spectrum bands.

For the rural broadband fund, the FCC is repurposing funds to create the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund. Its goal is to connect up to four million rural homes and business to high-speed internet. It will provide $20.4 billion in subsidies over the next 10 years to companies to build out rural infrastructure.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
