iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5 developer betas include faster access to passcode entry, allow for quicker device access if wearing a mask

Where protective masks have become part of everyday life in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the newly-released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 developer betas seem to include streamlined speed with which the passcode pops up when a person wearing a mask is detected. This, in turn, can make it easier to get into an iOS device with a passcode when Face ID fails.

Speedier access to the passcode interface is noticeable when you swipe upwards on the Home screen when unlocking the ‌iPhone‌, as this action now immediately brings up the passcode interface the user’s face is covered by a mask.

Prior to this, the device would attempt to initiate its Face ID first, creating a few seconds of delay before the passcode interface appeared.

The iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 public releases should occur in the next few weeks.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
