Microsoft reportedly working on native Xbox One console streaming app for iOS

Microsoft’s race to bring Xbox games to your smartphone may be headed to the iPhone.

The company is reportedly working on an app that would allow you to stream from your Xbox to your iPhone.

As of August, Microsoft ended its xCloud iOS beta, ending hope that the app would appear for iOS. Apple, in turn, opened the door to cloud gaming services in September, allowing for developers to create apps that mirror an entire device, rather than just streaming from a cloud-based service.

According to the Verge, Microsoft has an official version of this software version in the works for iOS alongside its client for Android.

For users looking to stream their Xbox content to their iPhone now, you can use OneCast, an app that has been available since 2018. OneCast mirrors your Xbox One console to your iOS device, and even your Apple TV, allowing you to play your Xbox One games on these devices.

However, this is hardly new news. OneCast, an app that has been available since 2018, mirrors your Xbox One console to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch— or even your Apple TV. This enables you to play the games you already own on your favorite Apple devices.

OneCast requires iOS 10.0 or later to install and run. The developer recommends the console be connected to a wired network, and the host device be connected to a 5Ghz Wi-Fi network, versus 2.4Ghz. The app occupies 17MB of space on device, and retails for $11.99.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
