Rumor: Charter Spectrum could be the first to utilize tvOS 12’s Zero Login feature, launch in early December

It looks like Charter Spectrum may be the first service to utilize iOS 12’s “Zero Sign On” feature and will launch before the end of the year.

Zero Sign On functions as a simplified login process for streaming TV applications and it’s rumored that Charter Spectrum is currently in the process of training its employees on the new Apple TV app. While this doesn’t offer a confirmed launch date by any means, it does show that the cable provider is in the final stages of its own testing.

Another user has reported via Reddit that the Charter Spectrum app for Apple TV is “in final internal beta testing” and user acceptance testing. The current target launch date is thought to be for December 3rd, although a December 10th launch date has been thrown around as well.

Final details have yet to be confirmed by either Charter Spectrum or Apple, although it’s also thought that the launch date could be pushed back into 2019.

Zero Sign On is Apple’s followup to its Single Sign On feature. So long as the Apple TV is connected to home Internet, Zero Sign On means users will never have to enter their TV login information, with Zero Sign On authenticating through the network connection instead.

Apple’s original comment regarding the launch went as follows:

“Apple TV simply detects the user’s broadband network and automatically signs them in to all the supported apps they receive through their subscription—no typing required. Zero sign-on begins with Charter later this year and will expand to other providers over time,”

Charter Spectrum has stated that their Apple TV app will provide subscribers to “hundreds of live TV channels and tens of thousands of on-demand” TV shows and movies.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
