Rumor: Second-gen MacBook Neo to gain A19 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM

The MacBook Neo has proven to be a hit and it looks like Apple is planning a follow-up model to be released next year.

Per MacRumors, Taiwan-based tech columnist and former Bloomberg reporter Tim Culpan has stated through his Pulpium newsletter that the next-gen MacBook Neo will be equipped with a version of the A19 Pro chip from the iPhone 17 Pro models. As such, the upcoming notebook could have 12GB of RAM, which is the amount of unified memory found in the current iPhone 17 Pro models.

The current MacBook Neo has an A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM.

In the iPhone 17 Pro models, the A19 Pro has a 6-core GPU, but Culpan expects Apple to use a “binned” version of the chip with a 5-core GPU in the next MacBook Neo. The current model also has a 5-core GPU, so this would not be a change.

It’s been rumored that the second-gen MacBook Neo would get the A19 Pro chip, but Culpan has cited supply chain sources in Asia.

Per a separate DigiTimes report published on Tuesday, the MacBook Neo is assembled in China and Vietnam. Culpan said Apple is in talks with suppliers to potentially boost MacBook Neo production, given that sales have apparently surpassed expectations. He cited that Apple is facing a “massive dilemma” as a result.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
