  • BBEdit 11.0 released, adds new features, easy import for TextWrangler users

    You love BBEdit.

    And it just hit version 11.

    Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit 11.0, a major upgrade to its professional strength HTML and text editor.

    BBEdit 11 builds on an extensively modernized foundation with newly overhauled systems for Find Differences, Clippings, and syntax coloring; and it adds dozens of enhancements and new features.

    The new Find Differences workflow provides a more efficient single-window presentation of results for both file and folder comparisons. A new sidebar for folder comparisons identifies
    mismatched files and makes easy the process of copying files to bring two differing folders into harmony.

    BBEdit’s Clippings system is now more flexible thanks to a reimagining of how clippings are managed and employed. An updated Clippings palette makes it easier to locate and apply specific clippings as
    needed.

    The internal syntax coloring mechanics have been overhauled, and now allow much greater flexibility in color choices for language support. Many factory-supported languages now sport additional color options, and BBEdit 11 also includes several tastefully constructed built-in color schemes.

    This new version of BBEdit provides a number of new built-in commands and editing gestures to enhance everyday productivity. A new “Highlight instances of selected text” feature aids navigation; new commands are provided to support editing of of tabular text, as well as easier manipulation of entire lines of text.

  • BBEdit updated to 10.0.1

    Late Wednesday, Bare Bones Software released version 10.0.1 of BBEdit, its popular text and HTML editor. The software retails for US$125 for new users. The new version, a 13.7 megabyte download, features an extensive list fixes and improvements with release notes available here.

    BBEdit 10.0.1 retails for US$49.99 with an introductory price of US$39.99 between now through October 19th and requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 or later to install and run.

  • BBEdit Updated to 9.3

    Late Thursday, Bare Bones Software released version 9.3 of BBEdit, its popular text and HTML editor. The software retails for US$125 for new users. The new version, a 16.1 megabyte download, features the following fixes and improvements:

    – Introduces significant enhancements to the Projects feature that debuted in BBEdit 9.0, including support for adding Finder saved searches to projects, and additional flexibility in handling non-text files, including command-driven support for examining files via QuickLook when running on Mac OS X 10.6.

    – The BBEdit 9.3 update now lets customers create language-specific ctags data files to serve as completion sources.

    – FTP/SFTP browsers now feature a “New” button allowing for the creation of new files and folders directly within the browser window.

    – The clippings system has been enhanced to allow combining clipping sets for easier access when working in mixed-language files.

    – Attached menu scripts are now easier to manage from within BBEdit’s own preferences.

    – BBEdit 9.3 introduces a new command-line tool, “bbfind”, which provides access to BBEdit’s multi-file searching from the Unix command line.

    BBEdit 9.3 retails for US$125 and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to install and run.

  • BBEdit Updated to 9.2

    Late Thursday, Bare Bones Software released version 9.2 of BBEdit, its popular text and HTML editor. The software retails for US$125 for new users. The new version, a 15.4 megabyte download, features the following fixes and improvements:

  • Introduces an array of noteworthy features and refinements, including an innovative new Sleep command, which captures the state of the application and restores it at next launch. By sleeping BBEdit instead of quitting, customers can continue working after a system restart or software update with minimal disruption. The version 9.2 update also adds built-in support for editing LassoScript source code, including syntax coloring, function navigation and text folding.
  • The BBEdit 9.2 update also includes major enhancements to Projects with added commands for convenience, shortcuts for searching, and a new file format which better fits with source code management systems such as Subversion and Perforce. Version 9.2 includes an overhaul to BBEdit’s management of recently used items.
  • BBEdit 9.2 also signals enhancements to the Scratchpad feature, syntax coloring for all languages, with specific improvements to the Java and Python language support, and new support for the ability to browse Unix “tar” files in disk browsers.
  • BBEdit 9.2 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to install and run.
