  • Twitter announces plans to discontinue Mac version of its client, focus on web-based interface

    In less than a month, Twitter’s Mac client will no longer be available.

    Per an announcement from @TwitterSupport on Friday, the company said Twitter for Mac is no longer available for download starting now, and that it will not supported at all in 30 days.

  • Apple discontinues iPod nano, iPod Shuffle, reduces iPod touch price to $199

    The iPod nano and iPod Shuffle are no more.

    Early Thursday, Apple removed the iPod nano and iPod shuffle from both its web site and online store around the world. The company confirmed that the units have been discontinued, but continues to sell the iPod touch with updated pricing and storage, including a 32GB model for $199 and 128GB model for $299.

    For now, it appears the iPod nano and iPod shuffle are still available to purchase at many Apple Stores and other resellers, but that likely won’t be the case for too much longer. In the United States, the latest iPod nano started at $149 with 16GB of storage, while the iPod shuffle cost $49 with 2GB of storage.

  • Rumor: Apple to release next-gen MacBooks this month, discontinue 11-inch MacBook Air units

    Some interesting stuff has just come down the pipe about Apple’s next-gen MacBook Pro notebooks.

    A new report which cites a “reliable Chinese supplier” states that Apple plans to both announce the new MacBook Pro this month, as well as to ship it to retailers. As rumored in the past, the new MacBook Pros are expected to feature support for USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. As for other ports, though, Apple is said to be ditching support for traditional USB ports, as well as for MagSafe and Thunderbolt 2.

  • Samsung halts production of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, informs users not to turn devices on

    Well, Apple’s faulty batteries never caused a company to tell its users to discontinue use of their product outright.

    Electronics maker Samsung issued an alert to customers on Monday asking them to turn off their Galaxy Note 7 smartphone units. The units have been spontaneously catching fire. As such, the company halted production of the devices over the weekend.

    In a corporate statement, Samsung said it will also “ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7” while it investigates the cause of the fires.
    It also said, “Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device.”

  • Apple apparently discontinues third-gen Apple TV units, focuses on fourth-gen models

    It’s been some time coming.

    Apple has officially discontinued the third-gen Apple TV set-top box. In an email sent out today to employees and education partners, Apple confirmed that it is discontinuing the device, shifting its focus entirely to the fourth-gen, tvOS-powered model.

    In the email, Apple explained that it would fulfill order backlog for the device, but pointed partners towards the other available products for new purchases.

    Apple offered the following explanation in the email:

    Effective immediately, Apple TV (3rd generation), MD/199LL/A, has reached end of life and is now discontinued. The Apple Supply team is going to fulfill all shippable backlog.
