Twitter announces plans to discontinue Mac version of its client, focus on web-based interface

In less than a month, Twitter’s Mac client will no longer be available.

Per an announcement from @TwitterSupport on Friday, the company said Twitter for Mac is no longer available for download starting now, and that it will not supported at all in 30 days.

The company offered the following explanation as to why its web-based client is better than the Mac client:

We’re focusing our efforts on a great Twitter experience that’s consistent across platforms. So, starting today the Twitter for Mac app will no longer be available for download, and in 30 days will no longer be supported.

Twitter has long made it clear it would rather we use a browser on the desktop, a view that has caused controversy for much of its user base.

Definitely not a popular move.
