  • Apple offers iOS 13.4.1 update as day one fix for 2020 model iPhone SE

The moment you snag your 2020 model iPhone SE, you’re probably going to want to run its software update.

Apple on Thursday released the iOS 13.4.1 update for iPhone SE owners, suggesting ‌iPhone‌ SE models arriving to customers tomorrow will have iOS 13.4 installed and will need a day-one software update.

The update can be snagged by going to Settings > General > Software Update, and can be accessed via Wi-Fi or over a cellular network.

The update adds the following fixes and changes for the iPhone SE:

iOS 13.4.1 includes bug fixes for your ‌‌iPhone‌‌.

    – Fixes an issue where devices running iOS 13.4 could not participate in ‌‌FaceTime‌‌ calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier.
    – Addresses a bug with the Settings app where choosing a Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen would fail.

The ‌iPhone‌ SE was announced last week, with pre-orders taking place on April 17th. The first deliveries of the new device will begin today.

If you’ve been able to snag the new iPhone SE and had a chance to play with it, please let us know about your experience in the comments.

  • Korea Telecom store advertising hints at Apple’s anticipated low-cost iPhone model

This could be a bit more telling than Apple wants it to be. A sign for the rumored iPhone 9/SE 2 has been spotted on a poster in South Korea. The device is being advertised outside a Korean Telecom’s store, alongside advertising for the Samsung Galaxy S20 handset.

The Korean Telecom’s store had, in fact, begun accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 9 and the Samsung Galaxy S20.

While this should definitely be taken with a grain of salt, Apple is expected to unveil a new, low-cost iPhone handset this year. The device is thought to feature 3GB of RAM, 64 to 128GB of memory, Touch ID, and feature a smaller form factor similar to the iPhone 8. Apple has yet to confirm such a device, but Korea Telecom might have a bead on things that others aren’t yet privy to.

  • iOS 13.3.1 beta 2 adds toggle to disable U1 chip on iPhone 11 handsets, change implemented to manage location tracking/privacy bug

If you’re concerned about your privacy and location tracking via your iPhone, this might help.

Twitter user Brandon Butch has noted that the second beta of iOS 13.3.1, released earlier this month, includes a toggle for disabling the Ultra Wideband chip in the device.

The toggle can be found by opening the Settings app, tapping Privacy, tapping Location Services, selecting System Services, and then toggling off the “Networking & Wireless” option.

Apple incorporated this toggle in the new beta after it was discovered that the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max handsets continued to track user location even after location services had been disabled.

The company stated that this was expected behavior given the Ultra Wideband chip found within the new iPhones and that this was operating as designed. The company stated that this met designed expectations given international regulatory requirements that mandate the U1 chip be disabled in certain locations.:

Ultra wideband technology is an industry standard technology and is subject to international regulatory requirements that require it to be turned off in certain locations. iOS uses Location Services to help determine if ‌‌iPhone‌‌ is in these prohibited locations in order to disable ultra wideband and comply with regulations.

The management of ultra wideband compliance and its use of location data is done entirely on the device and Apple is not collecting user location data.

Apple at the time stated that the company would offer a toggle that would disable the U1 chip entirely, and that the toggle would be found within the public release of iOS 13.3.1.

  • iOS 13.1 code references hint at Smart Battery Case for 2019 model iPhones

Once again, a group of code strings may have hinted towards an upcoming product.

Not surprisingly, a series of code strings referencing a possible Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max has been discovered within the beta code for iOS 13.1. The model numbers found in code of the under-beta operating system are A2180, A2183, and A2184.

While there’s no indication as to what models the numbers refer to, the model numbers seem remarkably close to the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, though which model number relates to which iPhone variant is still a mystery at this time.

It’s unknown as to when Apple will introduce the next wave of Smart Battery Case models, although the company released previous versions of the Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone XR in January of this year, it could be quite a while before the cases are available to purchase.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
