Rumored iPhone 15 model dimensions and weights published

A series of pre-production dimensions and weights of the new iPhone 15 models have been obtained by the mighty Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who has stated that the iPhone 15 Pro could be up to 10 percent lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro.

The dimensions and weights appear to be as follows:

    iPhone 15 dimensions and weight:

    • Thickness: 7.8mm
    • Length: 147.6mm
    • Width: 71.6mm
    • Weight: 171 grams

    iPhone 14 dimensions and weight:

    • Thickness: 7.8mm
    • Length: 146.7mm
    • Width: 71.5mm
    • Weight: 172 grams

According to industry sources, the iPhone 15 is said to continue to use the exact same chassis material as the iPhone 14 — 6013 T6 Aluminum. With no significant differences in materials and no noteworthy structural changes, it’s easy to see why the weight of the standard iPhone 15 is close to that of the iPhone 14.

It’s also thought that the size difference between the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 14 Plus is minimal at best. No major design changes, structural changes, or changes in materials are expected, and the iPhone 15 Plus will also likely have a weight similar to that of its predecessor.

iPhone 15 Pro dimensions and weight:

    • Thickness: 8.25mm
    • Length: 146.6mm
    • Width: 70.6mm
    • Weight: 188 grams

iPhone 14 Pro dimensions and weight:

    • Thickness: 7.85mm
    • Length: 147.5mm
    • Width: 71.5mm
    • Weight: 206 grams

The iPhone 15 Pro is rumored to be up to 18 grams lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro given a change in materials. Industry sources were able to verify that Apple is using Grade 5 Titanium for the iPhone 15 Pro, which represents a notable departure from the stainless steel used on every Pro iPhone thus far. Grade 5 Titanium, also known as Ti-6Al-4V, is a titanium alloy used in a variety of industries and is widely known for its excellent corrosion resistance.

The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to have thinner bezels due to the use of advanced display technology known as LIPO, an acronym for “low-injection pressure over-molding”. First mentioned by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, and since independently confirmed by MacRumors, the use of LIPO technology for iPhone 15 Pro displays is expected to reduce the bezel size from the current 2.2mm to approximately 1.55mm.

iPhone 15 Pro Max dimensions and weight:

    • Thickness: 8.25mm
    • Length: 159.9mm
    • Width: 76.7mm
    • Weight: 221 grams

iPhone 14 Pro Max dimensions and weight:

    • Thickness: 7.85mm
    • Length: 160.7mm
    • Width: 77.6mm
    • Weight: 240 grams

At present, this is all pre-production information, and may not reflect units seen in the mass-production process. Slight differences may occur between this and the final result.

  • Rumor: Apple may launch new products at its retail stores following September 12 “Wanderlust” event

Rumor: Apple may launch new products at its retail stores following September 12 “Wanderlust” event

Apple’s September 12 “Wonderlust” special press event could feature the company’s announcing details as to additional products beyond the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9. It could then in turn have the products become available in its retail stores right after the event.

Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will make updates to its retail stores on the evening of September 12, the same day as the event. Typically, sales of new products only begin the week after the event, which has led to speculation that some of the new products announced on Tuesday could be launched in stores as early as Wednesday, September 13.

“Apple retail stores will be doing updates the night of September 12th, after the event. This implies that some new products could see near-immediate availability — or that they’ll simply be quickly putting up new marketing materials,” Gurman said on X.

It’s unknown as to which product or products might become available in stores the day after the event. Apple generally waits until Friday to begin accepting pre-orders for new iPhones, and then the devices become available in retail stores a week later. Last year, however, pre-orders for the new Apple Watch started immediately after the end of the online event.

It’s thought that Apple could begin selling some of its new accessories to accompany the new products. Apple is rumored to be launching a new charging case with a USB-C port for AirPods Pro, so this could be one of the products to be available in retail stores after the event. Apple is also rumored to launch some new Apple Watch bands next week.

The event will air on Tuesday, September 12, at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET. The event will be pre-recorded with a press presence at Apple Park.

  • Rumor: Apple to release iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 simultaneously this year

Rumor: Apple to release iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 simultaneously this year

It’s thought that Apple will simultaneously release both iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 next month, unlike last year’s staggered release of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.

Per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, sources within Apple have apparently stated that the company is considering the eighth betas of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to be the final versions in all but name, “barring any unforeseen circumstances.”

The eighth beta versions were released to both the developer and public beta testing communities last week, quickly after the release of the sixth and seventh betas, indicating that Apple could be fast approaching the final stages as it prepares to install iOS 17 on iPhone 15 models coming off the assembly line.

In 2022, Apple released iPadOS on October 24, more than a month after iOS 16 officially went public. The decision to push the iPadOS 16 release back until later in the fall was to offer more time to work on the company’s then-new Stage Manager app window management system, which had received significant criticism in the beta development phase. ‌

iOS 17‌ and ‌iPadOS 17‌ will likely appear shortly after the iPhone 15 series is announced during Apple’s “Wonderlust” event on Tuesday, September 12. Apple plans to stream the fall event live on its website, on YouTube, and through the Apple TV app.

  • Rumor: M3 Macs may debut in October

Rumor: M3 Macs may debut in October

With Apple’s September iPhone 15 event coming up, it’s seeming more and more likely that the M3-based Macs will probably debut in October.

In his Sunday Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has stated that the first M3 Macs may debut at their own event in October:

“The structure of the event, I’m told, will match the iPhone 14 launch: A prerecorded video will be shown online, as well as at an event at the company’s headquarters. There’s also another launch occurring in October — likely for the first M3 Macs — but it’s unclear if that will be positioned as a formal event.”

It’s also likely that Apple may simply send out a press release to the new M3 Macs. The M2 MacBook Pro, and the M2 Mac mini models didn’t have an event, and, historically, most Intel MacBook Pro and iMac spec bumps after a new chassis debuted hit the street after a press release.

Over the last ten years, Apple had October events in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2021. Full events in October didn’t happen in 2015, 2017, 2019, nor in 2022.

Apple’s shift from the M2 to the M3 processor is expected to occur sometime this fall. The M3 Pro, M3 Max, and M3 Ultra launches will be further down the road.

Apple tends to make the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the 13-inch MacBook Air, and the Mac mini the first models to ship in a chip generation, and they are still good candidates this time around. The M2 Mac mini was released in January 2023, so that may still wait a bit if Apple maintains a regular cadence.

Apple’s 24-inch iMac is also awaiting an upgrade, and with the M3 en route, it seems that Apple may skip over the M2 generation for the desktop. There’s also less of a chance of an M3 15-inch MacBook Air since the M2 hasn’t been around that long.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
