  • Apple Watch SE overheating cases surface, 10 cases noted so far

This definitely isn’t what a company wants to hear about its product.

Apparently a small number of Apple Watch SE devices have shipped with a defect that causes the units to malfunction and overheat. The instances initially appeared in South Korea, but the problem has begun to spread.

There are currently a total of 10 cases wherein the Apple Watch SE has overheated. The problem seems to affect the 40mm model in multiple varieties, and reports have indicated that the Silver, Space Gray, and Nike Edition watches have overheated.

The issue seems to be present in both the GPS and cellular varieties, and has occurred either during charging or soon after charging. After the incident, owners noted a strange yellow blotch on the screen, near the Digital Crown. At present, the issue seems to have surfaced in South Korea and the U.S.

The problems all occurred within three days of use after unpacking, and they all have factory codes of H4 or G9. The H4 factory code is manufactured in Zhejiang, China, while G9 points to Chongqing, China.

If your Apple Watch SE has a factory code wherein the first two letters of the serial number are H4 or G9, please be careful. Don’t wear it to bed for at least three days, and if the device feels hot, remove it and contact Apple to obtain a replacement.

Apple has yet to make an official statement regarding the issue.

  • iPhone 12 Pro delivery dates begin to slip, will now arrive in early November in some regions

There’s supply and demand, and they’re never exactly in perfect synch with each other.

Following Apple’s acceptance of pre-orders for its iPhone 12 Pro handsets, a number of estimated delivery dates have begun to move back around the world.

The delivery dates, which began at October 23, slipped back into November within three to four minutes of pre-orders being accepted, and some models and configurations saw delivery dates slipping back one and then two weeks. U.S. customers appear to have fared better, but worldwide it appears that Apple is already unable to keep up with initial demand on time.

U.S. customers seem to be in a more fortunate position, and it’s still possible to get the iPhone 12 delivered by October 23, assuming you order soon. There is also an option for collecting in-store and a random sampling of possible stores from New York to Los Angeles is showing the same October 23 date, as of October 16, 10:40 AM. ET

For France and Australia, the delivery date has slipped from October 23, and instead now lists the devices as available within five to seven working days, which means the date may actually have slipped to Monday 26.

Per the UK, the iPhone 12 is now available for delivery on November 2-9 at the earliest.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

  • U.S., U.K., post some of the slowest 5G wireless network speeds on average

5G networks are still a work in progress, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom.

According to a series of tests conducted by Opensignal, the United Kingdom has the worst 5G speeds, with the United States not far behind.

The United Kingdom features average download speeds of 32.6Mbps, with the United States posting speeds around 33.4mbps. The U.S. speed is only about 1.8 times faster than 4G. The fastest 5G speeds can be found in Saudi Arabia and Canada, the Saudis posting an average download speed of 144Mbps, or 14 times faster than 4G. Canada posted average download speeds of 90Mbps, which is consistent with the wireless architecture in that country.

Still, the U.S. offered exceptional 5G wireless availability, with 19.3 percent coverage. The UK was last, with roughly 4.5 5G wireless coverage. Saudi Arabia again led the way, delivering a 5G connection 34 percent of the time.

  • AT&T’s 5G network available across the United States, will activate for current plans on August 7th

AT&T announced today that its 5G network is now available nationwide, and that all of its current unlimited wireless plans will come with 5G at no additional cost as of August 7th.

Additionally, starting August 7 5G will be added to the AT&T Business Unlimited Web-Only, Starter, Performance, and Elite plans, again at no extra cost. Unfortunately, the fine print says that both consumer and business plans may find their speeds throttled if the network is congested. For the Business Unlimited Performance plan, throttling will only happen after 50GB of data has been used.

iPhone users won’t have true bragging rights for a few more months, as the only smartphones with 5G capability include the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G, the Samsung Galaxy S20 family, the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G, the LG V60 ThinQ 5G, and the LG VELVET 5G.

The current rumors have 5G capabilities arriving in one or more of the iPhone 12 models slated to arrive later this year.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
