Apple Store web site down in advance of “Hey Siri” media event

As expected, Apple’s online store has been taken offline as of Wednesday morning. With less than six hours before the company’s scheduled media event, Apple is apparently configuring the soon-to-be-announced inventory to go online.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro, iPad mini 4, the fourth-gen Apple TV, iOS 9, watchOS 2 and assorted Apple bands and finishes.

Rumor: Apple Watch to become available in Austria, Denmark, India and other countries in September

The Apple Watch could be debuting in Austria, Denmark, India and other countries later this month.

A rumor from Austrian website MacMania claims that the Apple Watch will be available in Austria starting September 15th, citing information it received from a reputable source working for an undisclosed large electronics chain in the country. As yet, Apple does not have an official retail presence in Austria.

IDC Device Tracker estimate puts Apple Watch sales at 3.6 million to date

Although Apple has yet to announce its official sales numbers for the Apple Watch, yet another research firm is putting forth an educated guess, estimating that Apple debuted at second place in the wearable device market behind Fitbit.

IDC’s latest Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker suggests that 3.6 million Apple Watch units shipped last quarter, giving it a 19.9 percent share of units worldwide. IDC claims that was second only to Fitbit, which it estimates shipped 4.4 million units, for a 24.3 percent share.

The only other wearable device which has cracked the million-unit mark, according to IDC, was Xiaomi, which is said to have shipped 3.1 million units, good for third place. IDC’s estimates place Garmin in fourth with 700,000 devices shipped, and Samsung in fifth with just 600,000 units.

Best Buy CEO announces Apple Watch will be available in all locations, cites other Apple-specific improvements

It looks like you’ll be able to snag an Apple Watch at every Best Buy location in the relatively near future.

Albeit Apple has been pretty quiet about the Apple Watch’s sales numbers, Best Buy’s CEO has stated that the device has been a hit with customers. The electronics retailer started selling Apple Watches this month in select stores, first in the United States and later in Canada. As of Tuesday, Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly said that Apple Watch demand has been “so strong” both online and in stores as the retailer plans to carry the smartwatch at even more locations.

Apple Watch coming to 100+ Fnac locations in France beginning August 21st

The Apple Watch just became a little easier to find in France.

The device has begun to appear at assorted Fnac locations within Paris, starting with just one store alongside the Fnac official website.

The Fnac retail store, which is thought of as the equivalent to Best Buy in America, initially selling the Apple Watch is the one located at the Champs Elysées, and will officially begin to sell the wearable on August 21. Other Fnac stores will begin to offer the Watch “within the next week,” and the store’s employees will be trained to field questions and concerns from customers regarding Apple’s smartwatch.

Apple Watch to become available in select Best Buy locations come August 7th

Come August 7th, you’ll be able to snag an Apple Watch at certain local Best Buy locations.

Best Buy announced on Sunday that Apple will be making Apple Watch available at more than 100 Best Buy stores in the U.S. on Aug. 7, making it the first major outlet to carry Watch outside of Apple’s own stores.

Best Buy will start stocking Watch through its online store and at select locations, with plans to expand to over 300 outlet before the lucrative holiday shopping season. Since launching in April, Apple has limited sales to its own online and brick-and-mortar outlets, international pop-up shops and a few token third-party boutiques.

Tim Cooks hints at wider Apple Watch retail presence this holiday season

Not surprisingly, Apple is looking to sell more Apple Watch units this holiday season.

And it plans to do this by increasing the device’s retail availability.

This news surfaced Tuesday, when CEO Tim Cook stated that the unit is expected the be a hot gift item this year and hinted at an increase in points of sale and/or inventory.

Apple posts Q3 2015 earnings, cites $10.7 billion profit on $49 billion in revenue

US$49 billion in revenue and a US$10.7 billion profit isn’t chump change.

And that’s the amount that Apple reported for its Q3 2015 earnings today, complete with figures that included profits from sales of the Apple Watch, which was launched on April 24th.

During today’s announcement, the company cited revenues of US$37.4 billion and a net profit of US$7.7 billion, or US$1.28 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.7 percent compared to 39.4 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 64 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

The amazing-and-pretty-reliable Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is making predictions again, this time regard upcoming Apple sale numbers, product colors and features.

In a new note released to investors, Kuo expects iPhone shipments to fall in the current quarter as anticipation builds for the next-gen iPhone, dubbed the “iPhone 6s”. Kuo has stated that yields for the Force Touch input have been low, which may constrict the device’s availability at first. Kuo also predicted new materials for Apple Watch casings and that Apple will launch new Apple Watch Sport color options to match the new iPhone.

Apple Pay launches in the UK

As of today, Apple Pay has officially come to the United Kingdom and are available for use in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Apple Pay works at participating retail stores and within apps that accept it. Because it requires NFC, it is only available for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users, and Apple Watch users who have an iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus. In-app Apple Pay purchases can be made with an iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus.
