Rumor: Apple expected to unveil, open orders for 2020 iPhone SE today

The rumor mill has it that Apple could be planning to open orders for a new iPhone as soon as today. The handset has been referred to as the “iPhone SE 2” and “iPhone 9,” and per a source close to the story, could simply be tagged the “iPhone SE” while referencing the hardware as the 2020 version.

Apple will reportedly offer the handset in black, white, and Product (Red) color options, and is said to offer the following iPhone SE cases alongside it:

  • Black silicone
  • White silicone
  • Red leather
  • Black leather
  • Midnight blue leather

Apple is also said to be offering the new iPhone SE in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities.

  • 128GB
  • 256GB

In addition, according to noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to keep the price point around the same for the iPhone SE, and is thought to be setting a $399 price point for the handset.

The new iPhone SE is expected to have the same design as the iPhone 8, although battery life should much improved with the removal of 3D Touch, a special feature on older iPhones. Other new features expected for the 2020 iPhone SE include Express Card and future CarKey support, which are not offered in the iPhone 8 handset this could be replacing.

Finally, a separate source has stated that retailers are preparing to start merchandising cases for the new iPhone starting Sunday, which could indicate a launch scheduled for next week as well.
