Apple has begun collecting additional Apple Maps data around Italy, as seen in iOS 15 betas

If you’re headed to Italy, this might come in handy.

A few years ago, Announced announced that it would be supplementing Apple Maps with more detailed maps, better road coverage, and faster, more accurate navigation. Improvements have since rolled out in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain, and Apple is focusing on Italy next.

Per Apple Maps enthusiasts Justin O’Beirne, Apple has recently begun testing its revamped Apple Maps across the Italian Peninsula, including San Marino and Vatican City. The updated maps appear to be limited to devices with the iOS 15 developer or public betas installed for now. During WWDC back in June,Apple announced that its revamped Maps experience would be expanded to all users in Italy and Australia later this year.

As of early 2020, Apple announced it would begin rolling out the revamped Apple Maps experience across Europe later in the year. The updated maps provide more comprehensive views of roads, buildings, parks, airports, shopping malls, sports venues like baseball fields and tennis courts, and other details.

So, if you’re headed to Italy, it might be a bit easier to get around with Apple Maps.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
