Apple releases iOS 14.8, iPadOS 14.8 updates

Just days before iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are expected to go live, Apple released iOS 14.8 and iPadOS 14.8 to the public.

This comes as a surprise for many users, as the operating system updates were not beta tested. Apple’s release notes for the update simply say it “provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.”

The company also offered the following comments in a menu screen that accompanies the update:

iOS now offers a choice between two software update versions in the Settings app. You can update to the latest version of iOS 15 as soon as it’s released for the latest features and most complete set of security updates. Or continue on iOS 14 and still get important security updates until you’re ready to upgrade to the next major version.

As usual, you can update your iOS device by going to the Settings app, choosing General, then choosing Software Update.

If you’ve had a chance to try the updates, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
