AppleCare+ plan quietly altered, now allows for up to two incidents in a 12-month period, and four incidents in a 24-month period

It may not have gotten any stage time or fan fare at Apple’s “Time Flies” media event on Tuesday, but Apple has apparently made some helpful changes to its AppleCare+ insurance program.

Under the previous terms of the program, your Apple device was protected for up to two instances of accidental damage within the 24-month policy period. Per the fine print, Apple has quietly doubles this to up to two instances per year, allowing for a total of four claims. The usual deductibles apply—$29 for iPhone screen repair, $49 for iPad repairs, $69 for Watch repairs, etc.—but you’ll no longer need to fret about using one of your incidents for small cracks to your casing or your screen.

Unfortunately, these instances can’t be rolled over to allow you to take advantage of unused incidents after 12 months. The same terms also apply to Apple’s Theft and Loss plan, which now retails for a flat fee of $149 for iPhone replacements, no matter which iPhone you own.

Customers now have up to a year to bring their device into an Apple Store to sign up for AppleCare+. You’ll still have to undergo the diagnostic and inspection prior to signing up, so not everything has changed.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
