Apple’s free repair program for iPhone 12 no-sound issue coming to an end

If you experienced sound issues with your iPhone 12 and/or iPhone 12 Pro, time is running out to get your device fixed at no cost.

Apple first launched its service program to fix faulty iPhone 12 and 12 Pro devices at no cost in 2021. After almost three years, the recall is coming to a close.

Following its release, the iPhone 12 exhibited an issue in which no sound would emerge from the device. Apple would later launch a no-sound replacement program in 2021 with Apple extending it from two to three years in August 2022.

The affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021. At this point, the last of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro devices with the flaw will run out of eligibility for free repair at the end of April 2024.

The issue itself is caused by a failure of the receiver module in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models. The service program is only for iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models and does not apply to the iPhone 12 mini or Pro Max units.

Apple is not offering a serial number checker for this program, so users will need to reach out to Apple Support to verify if their iPhone is covered.

Apple notes this program doesn’t extend the normal warranty for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro but does cover the failure of the receiver for “3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.”

This program is available worldwide and users can check out the official service program landing page linked below.
