Microsoft Xcloud service to allow game streaming via Safari in the near future

Following a long testing period, Microsoft has announced that it will be releasing its Xcloud game streaming surface to All Safari web browser users on Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and Macs in the next few weeks. Users will be able to stream many of their favorite games via the web browser.

Where Microsoft originally intended to use its Xcloud app natively on Apple devices, App Store guidelines prohibited streaming off-site games to apps without individual App Store items for each game. Upon Microsoft and Google’s refusal to do this, an effective ban of services such as Xcloud and Google Stadia on the App Store have emerged. Microsoft has worked around this, allowing games to be streamed through Safari without violating App Store rules.

Per Microsoft, users interested in the service will need to purchase an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. The company is currently running a limited-time offer that allows new users to try out the service for three months for only $1. After the trial period, the service auto-renews at $14.99 a month until canceled.

If you’ve had a chance to try the Xcloud service via your Safari web browser, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
