Reports of easily scuffed/scratched finish on Midnight Blue M2 MacBook Air surface, raise concerns

If you’re considering a Midnight Blue M2 MacBook Air, you might want to buy a case for it.

Although it’s only been a handful of days since customers received their Midnight Blue M2 MacBook Air notebooks, the finish on this model seems to be especially prone to scratches and scuffing.

Apple has previously pointed out that any aluminum product can get scratched up with use. Still, early reports are pointing to an issue the Cupertino-based tech giant has faced in the past. Like the space gray iPhone 5 and the aforementioned Jet Black iPhone 7, this Midnight Blue finish seems way too delicate.

Some reviewers and consumers have shown that the USB-C port on the notebook scuffs easily. Other users have reported that the scratches appear even around the trackpad.

Of course, that’s not the only thing users are complaining about with the Midnight Blue color options. More than a few say the finish is a fingerprint magnet, a problem the silver models don’t have.

One Redditor has suggested using an oleophobic coasting as a “liquid screen protector” to shield the notebook from fingerprints and scuffing. This may be a questionable idea, as the M2 MacBook Air relies solely on passive cooling, without any fans, such a coating may lead to overheating.

If you’re considering snagging an M2 MacBook Air, the smarter option might be to choose one with a different color finish, as almost no complaints have surfaced about fingerprints or scuffing on the silver or Starlight variants.

If you’ve seen this issue on your end, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
