Rumor: Apple to release AirPower wireless charging mat in March, final price unknown

The rumor mill has Apple’s AirPower wireless charging mat as hitting in March.

Apple hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but sources close to the story have indicated that the AirPower will be in stores in the second half of March. The Apple Post’s sources think the wireless charging case for AirPods will ship in March, too.

The AirPower functions as a wireless charging plate that can support up to three devices at a time. The unit works with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 3, and the unreleased AirPods wireless charging case—all at the same time.

Another report has stated that Apple is releasing its second-gen AirPods this year. The updated units are thought to include an updated wireless chip and support for “Hey Siri” instead of first requiring a double-tap. Next year another update is reportedly coming with water resistance.

Final pricing for the AirPower units have yet to be announced, and it’s thought that the previously-rumored price tag of $200 for the device is aiming high and doesn’t mesh with the company’s current pricing structure.
